Posting from school...

Had a very nice day today, but gymnastics suck.

However, me and foxallweek had a quite interesting convesation about art, so I thought I should do a post about artists I like.

Firstly, I love Vermeer. He was able to paint masterpieces with some very simple brush strokes. The realism on his paintings is amazing.

Then Gustav KlimtRead more... )

Yes, I looooove Caravaggio and how he makes figures emerge from a dark background.

Klimt did some gorgeous work as well; I love his women.

Yeah! That's one of the things that I also love about his work! The contrast between dark and light areas is amazing.

Oh, so we have another artsy girl here...

I wasn't familiar with Gustav Klimt, but I looked at the paintings in the link and was very impressed. I like the color and elegance he uses. And of course Vermeer! My parents have a print of "The Music Lesson" hanging in the front room, and I've always loved it. His compositions are so pleasant. They're very clean.

Thanks for the great art discussion and the great links!

Vermeer really is an artist, who should definetely be known by more people. My personal favourite is The Geographer. I mean... Just look at those folds! They're perfect! And the pattern on the carpet... Whew.

I've never really noticed The Music Lesson, until you pointed it out, but I must say that it's wonderful. In this painting, the Vermeer's ability to make people small, and yet significant is even more obvious here than on the other paintings. One can't help but admire the floor...
