Apparently I accidentally downloaded a copy of the first episode of Revolutionary Girl Utena that was dubbed instead of subbed. Now, as a rule I have nothing against dubbed versions of anime. I love the dub of Ouran and Trigun and Cowboy Bebop. But Utena’s dub is TERRIBLE and I. Hate. It.

Is this a good anime? I love ghost in the shell and bleach.

It's a really good anime. It has a great story that's really intricate and a good portion of much-loved anime crack as well. But if you watch it, you should definitely go with the subtitled version as the dub is TOTALLY LAME.

It's a fantastic anime (though it's my favorite so I'm super biased) that should appeal to anyone who enjoys swords, pretty characters and major wtf moments. It's something that traffics heavily in metaphors and is usually thrown into the category of mind-fuck anime.

I haven't seen much of ghost in the shell. Though I know it's really pretty. Utena is a bit heavier (intellectually/themeatically) than Bleach and is a WHOLE lot shorter. They both have very memorable characters and the same "anime crack" that we've come to expect from Japan.

Give it three episodes (of the subbed version) and see what you think.

The dub is the reason why I want them to do a reboot/redo. To give us another crack at the dub. (And so that I can be in it...)

Yeeaaah. Swiping your Utena will save me a lot of effort and I know your copies are good. And, you know, NOT flvs I stole from veoh.com.

I just put it on and saw that it was English and thought, "Hmmm, let's see how truly bad this is." It's like everyone involved made it a point to not care at all what kind of performance they were delivering. You and I could do a better dub, and neither of us even speak Japanese (yet).
