The nation’s pediatricians are recommending wider
cholesterol screening for children and more aggressive use of cholesterol-lowering drugs starting as early as the age of 8 in hopes of preventing adult heart problems.

not like some children may not need medications--a friend of mine has been on cholesterol meds since she was 10 and she's now 30, but she's actually almost underweight and eats very well, she just has horrible genes--but overmedicating isn't going to help kids and parents who are just too lazy to change their unhealthy diets.

I've gotten into anti-global poverty advocacy in the past couple of years, and sometimes I wonder whether "modernization" of impoverished countries is a good thing...just look at what a mess we have made of our health in this country. Hopefully we can help poor countries to elevate the income levels of their citizens without giving them our terrible habits. Although, richer people here tend to be thinner, since they can afford gym memberships, healthier food, etc.
