I just need to get this off my chest right now.
I got a job at a gas station, doing their overnights. When I was hired, I was told that I would get a raise after 90 days if I proved to be responsible and I did my job right, blah blah blah. Good, because 7.50 just doesn't cut it. I got my eval back near the beginning of October. All great marks. No complaints, no areas of improvement needed. I asked, "Does this mean I'll get a raise?" The manager confirmed that they would be putting it in, as I deserved it and while they weren't sure how many paychecks it would take to go into affect, it would be done. 8.00 an hour isn't much better but it is still more than 7.50.
Its been a month and I still haven't gotten a raise. Neither has the other overnight employee, who had received a similar eval and gotten told the same thing. So he inquired as to when we would be reaping the benefits of the raise. He was told "I don't know if you guys deserve it. Are you sure you do everything on the list? And you guys are on your phones. Corporate sees that stuff. I also heard that you guys are complaining about the update to your list for overnight. Maybe you guys shouldn't get it."
Woah, woah, woah. Back the fuck up. What? For this to make sense, I should probably expand. About three weeks ago, the managers changed the list for what we needed to accomplish while we work. It involved all the normal things (vacuum, sweep, mop, stock, clean counters, etc.) and they had added that on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we needed to clean certain shelves. To top this off, they ALSO added at the bottom "If you guys have time to read a book, write notes, dance about the store then you have time to clean extra shelves, windex doors, etc. That's how the store stays clean." and "CUSTOMERS COME FIRST."
Now, I have no problem having shelves to clean. Everyone is supposed to have some. This doesn't piss me off. What pisses me off is that no one else has to clean their shelves every week, only us. No one else has been told if they have time to stand around, they have time to clean other people's shelves, only us. Now, we were a bit miffed -- if they want those shelves cleaned, they should tell the people assigned to them to do a better job -- and we complained a bit. Who doesn't? I can say that, aside from the managers, I've heard EVERY. SINGLE. EMPLOYEE. complain about their job and the shit they gotta do and they customers they have to deal with. I can also say, without a doubt, that aside from 3 people (there are 10 employees total), I've seen them all break a multitude of policies. (being on their phones, answering their phones, using the store phone for personal calls, not tucking in their shirts, dyeing their hair...)
Where the fuck do they get off telling us we don't deserve our raises when we do more than the rest of them? Just because they 'have less time' than us shouldn't mean that we get burdened with it. I get my shit done within three hours and that's with the extra cleaning I do. I don't see the problem with reading a book (whether an actual book or one on my phone) once I'm done. It's not like I ignore customers or not get my shit done.
Oh, and as a side note about the CUSTOMERS COME FIRST. thing: IF A CUSTOMER CALLS ME A CUNT JUST BECAUSE HE CAN'T COME INTO THE MOTHERFUCKING STORE, I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO FUCKING SERVE HIM.
According to my boss, I actually need to and that I should 'grin and bare it.'
Yo Redners. Fuck you hard. Sideways. With a splintered broom stick. And no lube.
On a happier note, I'm completely addicted to really loud music and I haven't had any in a while. And I effin' need my Glee fix.
