The quality of mercy is not strained;
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blessed--
It blesseth him that gives, and him that takes.

Sounds like something from the Bible.

my mom quotes the first line all the time "the quality of mercy is not strained"

I think it is so perfect. People care so much about some things and not others whether it be life or death or someone's feelings or whatever. We can feel compassion for a human but not an ape, and ape but not a dog, a dog but not a cow, a cow but not a snake, a snake but not a spider, a spider but not a roach, a roach but not a louse

the list slowly starts to look more insane but why is it insane to at least feel bad when anything has to die or suffer
of course the statement can mean so much and that's just one example....
being merciful can be difficult and we just can't be all the time but surely we can understand all depths of mercy...

um, so uh, what did you say...oh yeah, no it's not from the bible : )
