Bryony scuffed booted feet across the cement platform of Atlas, just beneath the familar statue. It had been what seemed like ages since she quit her position as a goverment issue 'bot. With the threat of Nemesis somewhat diminished, she felt safe to once again return to her post, wearing her government gear, right down to the familiar sunglasses, proudly. Emory had been awarded a full scholarship due to his contrubutions to robotics, as well as a spot working for her branch of government, mentored by his father, who had recently found a love interest of his own. The time away had given her a new perspective of the humans she served, allowing her to be a bit more open to their actions rather than just their words and the tone in their voices.
"You're not one to slack on the job, Bryony," A familiar tone widened her eyes and her head swung quickly to look back at this man. There he stood in all his glory, her mentor, her idol. The man who had previouslysacrificed himself to save her.
"Lucerne!" Bryony gave him an overjoyed expression, a happy smile on her face. Her eyes then raised to a hulking figure to his right, "And...Rose!"
"Sister," Rose gave her a gentle smile as Bryony ran to hug him, "Sister, I'm so pleased to see you're well."
"But..how?...You two were...gone."
"Our personality data was found stored onto a backup folder shortly after Judson took over the commanding post. He took the original concept designs and rebuilt us from the ground up with all the latest software," Lucerne spoke in his usual serious tone. Normally it frightened her, but for once, Bryony felt more than ecstatic to hear this tone again.
"Sister, Emory said Lucerne was a surprise...for you," He smiled sweetly, towering over her with all his girth and muscle.
"Rose..." Bryony looked as if tears could fall from her eyes, "You're both here...this is..."
Lucerne crouched, rebuckling one of the buckles on his shoes, giving an almost uncomfortable, embarassed expression to Rose's comment.
"No time to sit around and chat," Lucerne quickly stood, focusing on her as he linked with her wirelessly, something he had never been able to do before. Her eyes widened as he continued, picking apart her system, looking for a file, "Here's the file for your next investigation. Rose and I have been assigned elsewhere. I trust you can investigate this person on your own."
"Bryony..." His voice was sounding, but inside her head, where only she could hear him, "...Larkspur informed me of your new bodyguard."
"No, Lucerne," She frowned a bit, "He's not here now, and I haven't seen him since Nemesis was defeated. I got tired of waiting.."
"Exactly," His voice was harsher, almost as if he were scolding her, "I have orders to accompany Rose at this moment, and Larkspur and Sage are needed to assist Judson in his studies. Therefore, I must leave it up to you to find another to accompany you while you await your previous one's return."
They exchanged glances, Lucerne hitting her with a firm stare. Finally, she nodded, gripping a fist with a frown "Yes sir." She knew Lucerne had always been hard on her because he wanted her to become stronger, but she could never get past what small part of him she knew he hid. She had seen his softer side once, and she hoped she would again. He was her idol, the man she strived to be as strong as. Just the simple fact that he was leaving her be was a jump for him, as he would never have left her alone when they were first paired together.
As Lucerne and Rose left, Bryony scanned over the file of this person she was sent to investigate. Apparently he had not been registered as a hero, but he had made several purchases and been seen around Atlas recently helping citizens with a strange power. Her assignment was to seek out this man, and make sure he wasn't someone trying to sneak by.
She stood, with a new sense of courage about her.
