Anyway, I think restoring your computer (losing all the files in the process) is almost certainly not the right answer. It's probably the modem is bad or a spyware problem, hopefully not a virus problem.

ROFLOL I did NOT know you worked for the Geek Squad!!! I wish you were here I'd just have gone to you! I don't have any computer geeks here in dirty jersey to help poor little me. And yes, I didnt think being forced to lose everything I had sounded like the right answer either and neither did the nice guy at the geek squad so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. only issue is that if the modem IS bad then I should probably go back to Dell becasue the computer is still under warranty. I'm almost hoping it i spyware in which case I could just let the geek squad take care of it instead. I should get a call from them tomorrow to hear what they found ( ... )

OK, I dont know if you're gonna read this before I call the geek squad back but I just feel like sharing. So they called me last night and said that it's either spyware or a virus in either windows or that the driver for my modem are corrupted or something. But they aren't really giving me a definite explanation. I'm choosing to pay them to back up my stuff because I couldn't figure out how to make it small enough to burn because I don't have winzip on there yet he's telling me they're gonna give me everything on a disc. How's it ALL gonna fit? music and pictures etc are just too big. i'm a little confused, I'd think they'd end up giving me 10 freakin discs. So for the future I'm going to do as my bf said and invest in an external harddrive as an easier method to back up from now on. In the meantime they told me I needed to find the operating systems disc for my computer. Turns out I have to call and tell them that this model has a paper in it that claims it doesnt need one and they have to go through the owners manual on the ( ... )

Hm, backong up to an external is def a good choice and purchase. As far as the restore/driver issue it may be wiser to see if just reinstalling the modem drivers works. If you don't have a restore disc that means either you were supposed to make them or there is a restore partition on the harddrive. Ask geek to check.
