I primarily use it for work, so needs to run Office 2007 happily. I'd like to stay on XP but I imagine I'll have to get to grips with Vista?
I need to be able to have a number of things going on at the same time without that slowing it down massively (currently I have a couple of webpages open, lotus notes running, plus a word document and a powerpoint presentation that I am flicking between).
As with my current (ex) laptop, I intend to set it up as a desktop (so docking station compatibility would be cool, otherwise will stick with the seperate USB keyboard/mouse combo that I currently use) but the ability to use it portably is important (though I doubt I'll actually carry it around *that* much).
The ones I've looked at are about £400-£450 ish, I could probably go up to £500 if I had to...
I know pathetically little, are these the right sort of answers?
You should be able to get some kind of Vista to XP upgrade (well downgrade) if you speak to the shop/Microsoft - but I don't know exactly how that is done.

How much can you afford?
