Herm, the only current news article I can find that mentions animals and the evacuation efforts state an increased focus on animal rescure, with volunteers from the Humane Society and SPCA spearheading the efforts.

 I just did a little research and couldn't find it either. I don't know.. I thought that site only had real issues.. I am not sure of the authenticity of it now.. But I sure would be upset if it were true and I hadn't signed it.. I'm wayyyyy overtired now and need sleep rather desperately now..

Sincere apologies if this is NOT an authentic petition and I have misled anyone. It is not intentional.

Yeah, unfortunately there hasn't been a clear picture about the actual state of the various operations going on in NOLA. They've gotten better than they had been in the beginning, but the lack of clear coordination between local, state, and federal authorities has muddied the picture.

In the past dealings with this petition site, they have only had valid petitions, else I would not have posted about it.

I certainly hope it is real, as I was as horrified as you at the thought and deeply disturbed by it.

Part of the problem might be the date. This was issued last Tuesday. Things are getting better on the ground in NO, but martial law and mandatory evacuation is still in effect. The SPCA has started rescue efforts in other areas, but have not yet been allowed back into NO. I could be wrong the situation keeps changing and verifiable details have been a bit sparse
