Prologue
He had planned to come to the house to leave a message for Buffy.
He knew how much the Slayer loved her little sister and her death would crack, if not break, the bitch. But all that was before he actually looked at Dawn, really looked at her. His souled version stayed pretty far from the girl and now he knew exactly why. Lying in her bed, sound asleep with the moonlight gently kissing her form she looked eerily like his precious Drusilla, only younger. Long dark hair flowed over her pillow, a slight smile on her face, she was purity and beauty, oh he wanted to corrupt this girl. Hence a new plan was formed.
He bowed down and kissed her forehead. “So much potential pretty girl, gonna make you perfect.” Then he left quickly to work out how to make this new plan work.
The next evening the foolish slayer went on patrol and the girls’ mother stayed late at the gallery, leaving the little princess all along. It was a good thing no one had figured out he had gotten rid of his nasty soul. He simply walked right up to the door and knocked.
Dawn opened the door and smiled, “Hi Angel, Buffy isn’t here, she snuck out and bribed me with chocolate to keep quiet!”
“Well, well, leaving such a sweet girl all by herself? Maybe I should stay and wait for her. You wouldn’t mind, would you Princess?” Angelus oozed charm as he spoke to the girl.
“Sure! I still have some chocolate if you want some!” The eleven-year-old almost glowed with joy, she hated being all alone with no one to talk to.
Angelus walked and noticed a drawing pad on the table with a decent sketch of Buffy. He was impressed that a girl so young could draw so well already, it made him even more set to go foreword with his plan.
He picked up the sketch pad. “I sketch too you know, would you like me to show you some techniques?”
“Oh yes, I love to draw, it’s like an escape. It’s hard having “Buffy the Perfect” for a sister ya know. I am always kind of pushed aside for her. Did you know that she is the reason we had to move here?? She burnt down her high school in LA, then dad left and we had to move here. Not that I had many friends back in LA.” The girl was now playing with her long brown hair looking sad.
Angelus smiled and smoothed her hair down. “Well that seems like an awful lot for such a sweet girl to have to go through. How about I show you some shading techniques and help you escape Princess?”
Angelus sat calmly showing Dawn different shading techniques and watched pleased as she not only used but mastered them quickly. He had always loved a good pupil and this girl was. He watched her out of the corner of his eye noting how different she looked from her mother and sister. She was like spun moonlight. It frustrated him to an extent that the girl was so young, it would not due to turn a girl so young, but he knew he had all the time in the world.
The knock on the door startled Dawn. “No one ever comes over this late, I wonder who it is?”
“Would like me to get the door Princess?” Angelus asked smoothly. He knew damn well who was at the door.
Dawn smiled innocently. “Yes, would you Angel?”
Angel opened the door to see what he expected, Drusilla. “Oh Dawn, it is a friend of mine do you mind if she comes in?”
Dawn looked up and answered “I don’t mind, come on in.” Drusilla slipped in grinning.
“Hello dearie!” Drusilla greeted the girl. As she looked at Dawn she saw stars swimming about her tiny frame.
“Dawn this is Drusilla. Drusilla this is Dawn, isn’t she just a precious little princess Dru?” Angelus cooed.
“Yes, she is full of stars. Her eyes are like oceans!” Drusilla knew what her Daddy had in plan for this girl and grinned as the girl looked into her eyes. Drusilla enthralled the girl just as her Daddy had told her to.
Once Dawn was in a hypnotic stasis, unaware of what was going on, Angelus asked Drusilla “Did you get the potion?”
Drusilla looked proud and held out a silver flask. “Yes Daddy I got the healing potion just like you asked. What shall you do with her?”
Angelus smirked. “Gonna put a claim on this little one, but don’t want the slayer to see it so I need to heal right after. And Dru? I don’t want her to remember afterwards. Add a trigger word for her to remember though.” Angelus looked at his Childe purposefully.
“Yes Daddy just as you say. What shall I use?” Drusilla grinned at her Sire.
Angelus thought for a moment then smirked. “Make it a phrase, ‘Angelus’ dawning light.”
Dawn came out of her trance not realizing this conversation had ever taken place. “Hello Drusilla.” She smiled sweetly.
“Hello poppet.” Drusilla smiled back.
“Dawn you are just too perfect, I think I will keep you forever.” Angelus grinned evilly.
“What do you mean?” Dawn asked with a tremble in her voice and started scooting away from Angelus.
Angelus was on her instantly. “I’m gonna lay claim to you right now Princess, but don’t worry I won’t make you all mine for a few years.”
Dawn tried to scream as she saw his face morph and his fang elongate but nothing would come from her throat.
Dawn felt his fangs slice into her skin and tried to scream but she was so scared she couldn’t even do that. The pain radiated from where Angelus bit her down her chest. She was in tears at once. Just as suddenly as he had begun Angelus withdrew his fangs but didn’t revert to his human guise.
“Now Princess if you don’t want me to make that hurt again drink this.” He said as he nicked his thumb and blood pooled to the surface. Dawn obediently swallowed the few drops he put in her mouth. “I claim thee.” His voice was a whisper.
Angelus then cleaned his mark and used the potion to heal it. Drusilla used her gifts to wipe Dawn’s memory of anything after she had gotten there and then both vampires left moments before Buffy walked into the house.
Every night after Angelus would sneak in and tell Dawn stories, hiding his soullessness from her, since it was obvious that Buffy was. He would tell her stories of his days in Europe, but he would make sure to never name the vampires in the stories. Just before he left every night he would have Drusilla come in and put the girl into a trance so he could feed her a few more droplets of his blood and draw a bit more of hers. Dawn never remembered these moments.
Soon after that first night Buffy and her friends had learned of Angel’s lack of soul. Buffy had been devastated. Eventually Buffy and Spike worked together to send Angel to hell. Of course he came back, but with his soul. Angel eventually left for LA, though his reasons weren’t quite as he claimed. He remembered that night with the little Princess, the night he claimed her. He remembered feeding her his blood and what it would mean when she got older. He knew he couldn’t be around her, for both of their sake.
Then the day came when Buffy sacrificed herself for the girl and he wept. He had truly loved her.
Then he heard something even more disturbing, those fucking friends of hers were letting Spike take care of Dawn. Deep within him Angel could feel Angelus raging Dawn was his and Spike was his and Spike should have no claim, vampiric or otherwise, on his Princess. That just could not be allowed.
