001; [Video]

[It is clear, as the video clicks into recording, that the person handling the device is either uneducated in it's use, or simply panicking. The video initially shows a few shots of the room, dark & murky, a momentary shot of a bed, and a television showing only static. Heavy breathing can be heard in the background, and the faint sound of the ( Read more... )

[After a few seconds, Hayden's voice comes through. If he sounds pissed off, well, his stalker ghost and its buddies are being persistant at making a mess of his door and one of the windows.]

Language, sister, there's those here who don't need such words in their vocabulary. As for what's going on here, your guess is as good as anyone else's... FUCK!

[Hypocrisy, yes, but given the thrashing sounds , muffled howl of fury, and sounds of something going through the window the hard way, he got ambushed.]

...And now I've got glass all over my floor and in my arm... I HATE that stupid thing. [Spounds of him wrecking a cabniet to use as a block for the broken window.] Welcome to Jigoku Apartments, where the tenants before you are dead and want their place back. Keep a grip on your red tape, and use it on the doors and windows. And expect to be swamped, the frickin' pests are out in force...

[There is a moment of crackling static, as Laurie tries to figure out if the device is recording. Seeming to decide to take her chances, she speaks into it directly, making sure her words are loud & clear.]

Listen, I don't know who you are, but language is the last of my concerns right now. I don't know what--

[She pauses.]

Something is outside my door, and I.. I don't know what you're talking about, but I just need to know how to use this thing so I can call 911, okay? My best friend's dad, he's the town sheriff, and he'll.. h-he'll come and get me.. I don't want to be in any apartments, and I don't want any tape. What am I going to do with tape if he-- no, he wouldn't..

Do you know who brought us here? And where are you? And furthermore, what in the fuck are pests? Is that what's outside my door? I need you to answer me. I don't know how long I have until he finds me. This is just the kind of thing he'd do to me.. take me here..

Just help me, okay?

[The irritated tone that has persisted throughout her dialogue is no longer ( ... )

[Ack, tears! Hayden is male, this produces an automatic male panic reaction. Though he does a good job of not showing it.]

Listen, where you were before, your home, this place isn't it. Your friends father isn't here, no one's here but people who have been brought here and the dead. Take the tape and use it on your door and windows. If they aren't in there with you right now, it's only because they haven't noticed you yet.

[His tones are tired, and if her blackberry's volume is high enough, Laurie will here the soft plip of blood hitting the floors from Hayden's arm. He's binding it, but it's slow, sine he has to fish around in the wounds for any glass, and he's talking to her as well. The pests are the local inhabitants, or at least what I call them. Ghosts would probably be more accurate, though they can be quite physical. They don't like the red tape, it will keep the weaker ones out, and it takes the stronger ones time to penetrate it. It won't keep them all out, so stay away from any suspicious looking stains on your ( ... )

[Slowly, Laurie's sniffling fades off a bit, and though Hayden can't see it, she is nodding a little in agreement with his words. Who would she be to question him? It seemed, at least for now, he knew the lay of the land a lot better than she did. She takes a few more moments, as if sinking in what he has told her. Exhaling gently into the mic, she began to respond.]

I don't want them to notice me, trust me. I can hear something, I don't know.. exactly what it is, but it sounds like scratching. It's out in the hall. I didn't go out, but I looked out the window, and it looks like hell out there, doesn't it? I can barely see, it's like smoke.. no, not smoke, fog, definitely thick fog.

I've never seen fog like this in my life.

So, it's this tape, right here? [There is the sound of shuffling, and the familiar sound of thick tape being pulled.] Red stuff, right? I should put it on all of the doors, and the windows? How is anyone going to find me? Or.. how do I get out? Isn't there anywhere to go? I can't hide in this room forever. It ( ... )

[A little after the transmission, a new voice comes through the audio feed. Speaking is a male voice with an extremely muddles accent, possibly Spanish, maybe Russian but it's difficult to tell.] Ey, miss? You are okay now? What is going on in there?

[Sometime later, there is a crackling response over the audio line. Sounding a little less distressed than she did during her recording, Laurie speaks up into the mic.]

I'm.. better now, at least. I've found someone to help me out, his name is Hayden. We're on the fifth floor.

I just had a little-- I woke up kind of confused. I guess that's pretty common here. Sorry for making you worry.

Yeah, he's pretty great. I really don't know what I woulda done if he didn't at least calm me down earlier; helping me find somewhere safe to stay was just a bonus.

Thanks, by the way. For caring.

... I'm Laurie. You got a name, mister?

[A child's voice sounds through the audio feed. She sounds pretty annoyed.]

You shouldn't swear so much you know?! It's bad for you.

[Her voice now dies down into a more calm tone.]

You're kinda stuck here now.

[There is a small chuckle, airy & absent, followed by the sound of someone clearing their throat gently on the other end of the transmission.]

Look, I don't know what your parents taught you about cursing, but I think my.. parents taught me the same. Despite popular belief, a little swearing won't kill you. And in this place.. don't you think it's okay? What else can you do? And really, who's going to care?

And yeah, I kind of got the stuck-here-memo by now.. unfortunately. [She sighs.]

..Still, it's a dirty habit and it's not exactly nice to hear.

[A light grumble through the feed and some shuffling on her end too.]

What room are you in? I'm in seven oh seven... Sorta.

Well, nobody made you listen, did they? I'm not here to please other people. And it isn't the worse dirty habit in my family.

I was upon on the seventh floor, but now I'm down on the fifth with Hayden Tenno. Why do you ask?

... And how can you sorta be in a room, kid?
