Poor Megs. I know how hard it is when you see people you love in hospital. My mother has very limited capacity in her lungs and is in and out of hospital all of the time and gets very seriously ill. That's why you don't hear from me for a while every now and then - too busy visiting my mum in hospital and running her errands (I swear she deliberately leaves her bills for me to pay when she's in hospital). My only recommendation is to spend as much time with the baby as you can get away with. I always head straight for my niece whenever mum isn't doing well because cuddling her always makes me feel better.
As for work I vote that you stay right where you are - make them fire you rather than quitting. At least that way you'll have time to look around for another job. Only quit if you've got nowhere else to go. You've worked hard for that company and you deserve to be treated better than that. Assholes!
