Your Pain
Slowly, silently your pain steals away my life as much as it does yours
I feel it as it leaks out of the confines of your flesh
Rising like vapor to envelope those who come near
It stabs at my heart with intensity unmeasured
My heart is broken
Shattered into thousands of tiny pieces
That is what it is like to see you go through so much suffering,
To see you so bent
Broken
Torn
Battered
To see in your eyes the loss of hope
Of dreams of tomorrow
Of promises of the future
To see in your eyes only pain
Doubt
Dismay
Every hour of every day
My heart is breaking
Being torn away
I can not fix what has been broken
I do not hold the key
Happiness it seems like such a distant memory
For you
Also for me
Everyday my heart breaks when I look in your eyes
At night, I mend that which I can
with threads made of hope’s remaining strands
Then wait to see what sunrise brings.
