That's EXACTLY what I thought when I was at WalMart yesterday, "Wow--hippy peanut butter is taking over." (There were lots of varieties of "organic," "all natural," and "tofu" peanut butters (well maybe not tofu, but you get it)).
As for your pants problem--you could say they fell apart in the wash--that'd be believable given the craptastic quality of Gap, Inc. clothing. The actual policy is always returnable for the price you paid if you have a receipt. Nothing wash nor worn unless defective. Damage-discounted clothing never returnable. Clothing returned without a receipt is exchangable with a value of the current selling price, or a store-credit-by-mail may be issued for the current value...unless under $5 in which case you may have the cash. You don't need to know any of this, I was just feeling gap-y.
