Jack frowned. He was used to the wonder twins, i.e. Daniel and Carter ganging up on him with their sciency wiles, but this was just too much. USUALLY, obviously not now, but usually, Jack could count on Teal’c to, if not support him, than at least remain neutral in the eternal Geek Squad vs. O’Neill power struggle.

But at this point in time he had three, count them THREE expectant faces staring him down. He resisted the urge to squim in his seat and valiantly stared back.

“I’m not gonna.”

And here it comes…

“But Sir…”
“Jack, it really is the smartest choice all around.”
“O’Neill I think it would be wise to rethink your decision.”

After spending a moment untangling the slew of words, Jack glared a Teal’c, emotions of betrayal and annoyance warring for position in his mind. He expected nothing less from Carter and Daniel.

“What gives you all the right to boss me around anyway? I’m the Colonel around here, y’know.”

“I realize that Sir, but you really should think about this”
“And it’s not exactly a military decision Jack.”
“I concur.”

Jack sensed that his defeat was at hand but he’d be damned if he if he had to act pleased about it.

“Fine! I fold.”

Jack huffed, flopping his poker hand, which wasn’t bad, not great but not bad, onto the table. He probably shoulda known when Daniel and Carter had suggested a friendly game of poker for he sake of “team bonding” that they were just looking for an excuse to bring him down a few pegs. He definitely shoulda known when Teal’c had agreed to the poker game without so much as a hint of reluctance that they were conspiring against him.

Looking at Carter’s self-satisfied smile, Daniel’s ‘I beat Jack’ smirk, and Teal’s raised eyebrow of smugness, Jack realized he should be used to being on the lonely side of these three-on-one battles by now.

Oh well. At least Jack felt assured at his team’s…well, teamwork for lack of a better word.

Finally feeling justified that this little game would benefit him in the end; Jack leaned back against his chair and allowed a slow smile to spread across his face, seemingly oblivious to the sudden apprehensive looks his teammembers were now giving him.

Ahh, it’s good to be ki-, the boss.

any suggestions for a title would not go amiss
