Gender Identity and Reform

Kenneth J. Zucker PhD has been selected as the Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders Chair for the DSM-V Work Group.

A number of folks in the trans community are worried about this as many are troubled by his methodology with children, and I think rightly so.  It's a gut feeling I get when I read this.

I read the NPR piece. Besides the fact that the reporter needs to be walloped on the nose with a rolled-up copy of the gender sensitivity guidelines, Bradley's story was absolutely horrible. To me this looks exactly like tying a left-handed kid's hand behind hir back so ze has to write right-handed: unecessary, cruel, and ultimately pointless as the orientation cannot be changed.

Zucker kills, he might not pull the trigger himself, but countless times his kind of "therapy" leads to suicide. Also his anti-trans attitudes add to the general attitude of the US, which isn't exactly the most positive.

PS I love some of the things the spell check suggests for Zucker, very accurate and appropriate
