If people want to misunderstand something, they will. *sigh*

A Finnish friend of mine just visited the UK and came back rambling on about how wonderful it was to see more women with long hair and skirts and things over there. Here pretty much every woman over 40 looks like a stereotypical lesbian with short hair and sporty clothes--even *my* gaydar goes WTF at it sometimes. Finnish women only wear skirts/dresses for some fancy parties and that's it--literally, the only skirts you'll see will be on some quirky art student types and hippies and goths, but not on "normal" women. And we spent quite a while wailing about the pressure to cut one's hair at a certain age and how brutal that is. In some countries, cutting a woman's hair at any age would be a humiliation. And even when I was a kid, I thought ladies with long gray hair always looked all wise and witchy and cooler than ordinary little old ladies. I'll certainly stick to my bum-length locks until the day I die, thankyouverymuch.
