"One Way Passage" is absolutely terrific. I saw it a million years ago (OK, 29) at the late, lamented Thalia Theater at 96th and Broadway in Manhattan and enjoyed it immensely. TCM shows it occasionally, most recently in their "Star of the Month" tribute to Kay Francis.

As I was reading your synopsis of "The Hard Way," I suddenly realized that I've seen it. And you're right - excellent work from Lupino, as well as Carson. (Leslie is always hard for me to take, but she managed to be reasonably OK here.) I can't imagine the Academy giving Ida an Oscar for a role like this one, especially when they could pick a woozy bit of sanctimony like "Song of Bernadette." (With this, Jones also managed to ace out Jean Arthur in the latter's only Oscar nominated performance - the rare two-fer Oscar shaft by Jennifer.)
