It's very sad that there was a need to update it.
I've only seen Richardson in "Patty Hearst" and "The Comfort of Strangers." Both are underrated, with exceptional sense of place, and a knack for capturing madness perpetrated in such an understated way that it makes it seem that much madder. I suspect film probably came in third for her, behind family and theater, so like John Gielgud and Ralph Richardson, her best work is not preserved for us to see. I do want to search out "The White Countess" now, both for her work and for Merchant/Ivory's swan song. "Room With a View," "Howards End," and "Remains of the Day" was an amazing three-film run that very few filmmakers could match.
