I think I may have mentioned a couple of years ago the difficulties I was having getting a passport on account of how hard it is to prove that you exist when you don't have a driver's licence. Always amused at the drivers license requirement for ID considering that SA licenses were always marked "Not to be used as a means of identification" since it was relatively easy to get one.

Then again I detest false security theatre.

Urgh, tell me about. I am constantly discovering the highly variable sensitivities of airport metal detectors. The ones in Adelaide seem to have pretty high tolerances. At other airports I am often picked up for the same pair of shoes or sometimes item of jewellery that the Adelaide machines didn't bother about.

If I ever have to go through one of those full body scanners in the US I am just going to put weird (but non-illegal) objects in my pants to freak them out.
