So I think I mentioned in one of my last posts about having a cold. It was a stinking, rotten cold which took the best part of a week to get over, and then just as that seemed to be starting to go away, it mutated into tonsillitis. Now, after about three weeks I feel like I might actually be on top of this vile germ. Fingers crossed ( Read more... )

Because of the requirement to apply for a certain number of jobs each week you get a lot of inappropriate applications for most entry government positions. We had shop assistants and truck drivers applying for medical physics positions that had legislative minimum requirements.

If you want to climb the ladder in the public service you definitely have to be aggressive about achieving internal positions and not worrying where the stilleto heels grind. Or so I've been told by those that have made a career of climbing the ladder (which is not for everyone). You can't go into it half-heartedly. But that's also how many management track positions are staffed by people that don't care about the job, only it's usefulness to reach the next rung. And you'd better like Canberra ( ... )

We shouldn't get that effect at the moment, as one of the conditions of the freeze is that most public service recruitment can only be from within the public service. I don't know if DSS had special permission to go outside, but we don't.

Mea saura.*

I thought low level meant entry level. [And it was for the RAH. Amusing, except that we had to legally consider the several thousand applications. And business faces much the same problems as well. So a political feel-good policy costs a large amount of money.]
