Gosh, I'm really spamming my journal now, but today's Text and Culture class gave me so much to think about that I just have to get it out.

Well, when it comes to my own work (i.e. poems) I always know what I mean, but what the "rest of the world" think that they mean is a different matter and as long as they mean something I'm happy, you know? And sometimes I don't really know what they supposed to me either :P ( ... )

Yes, that's the same for me (although sometimes I like putting in things that look like symbols, but don't mean anything...) and that's one of the points I was trying to make, that there's a difference between my meaning and the reader/writer's meaning ( ... )

I know, I was just agreeing with you..

I don't think Reagan actually listened to any verse and just dug the refrain. I mean first: I got in a fight so they sent me of to Vietnam. Second: Came back but now nobody wants to hire me. Third (or bridge or whatever): my brother was killed over there. Fourth: "I'm ten years burning down the road, nowhere to run, ain't got nowhere to go" and finally: "I'm a long lost daddy in the U.S.A." Right.

Well, now I'm even less fond of him :P

We need to watch some Monthy Python some Friday.

Failz for Reagan. I mean, seriously, if you're the president of the United States (or running for the post?) you really ought to check your facts.

Let's form a group^^ But it's a terrile example, isn't it? I mean, if I were to find out something like that about, say Tolkien, I would be devastated.

We do indeed. I know we have some tapes with a lot of Flying Circus on them. I should get the DVD. We should write a list of all the things we need to do on Fridays. I think we should go swimming sometime soon.
