We all like motorcycles... to some degree

I only have a few episodes left of the first season of Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour, and I'm happy that there are two more seasons, because I don't know how I'd live without it. It's just awesome in every single way. The music is great and has inspired most of what I listen to nowadays, and Bob's talk is pure gold. He knows all the fun facts ( Read more... )

"they opened a restaurant on the moon. The food was great, but there was no atmosphere" *Snort*

I don't think he could have been bigger either. As big maybe, but in slightly different ways.

It's interesting and pretty how big role death as well as the manner of dying have (I almost said "in today's popular culture but I don't think it's anything new tbh"), The Beatles being a perfect example. Even though all four of them is widely regarded as legends (or rather; The Beatles are regarded as legends) there is a hierarchy there and even if somebody shot Paul and Ringo now (and let's hope they don't!) I don't think they would achieve John's icon-status. I also don't like how John is so much "bigger" than George. Just look at the airport in Liverpool, it was re-named John Lennon airport after George had died too.

I should clarify - I don't mean "music-wise" with George and John, just that people have a tendency to forget George in favor for John and while being gunned down at 40 is a horrible, tragic way to go, so is dying from cancer at 58. Though it might also be that the latter hits a little to close to home for me, I don't know.

Martin Scorsese has made a new documentary about George btw, I'm hoping it's as good as No Direction Home :)

I hope that this makes any sense... >_>'

He cracks a couple of jokes like that each show, and sometimes he kind of chuckles to himself as if he's really pleased with them. It's great:D

I think it has a lot to do with John dying first, he was already a legend when George died, wasn't he? But it is interesting, as you said The Beatles are legends and John Lennon is a legend, but the others aren't in the same way, they're "just" superstars. But if any of the others would have been shot instead of John Lennon, would they have been the legends instead? Or is Lennon's music simply that much better than the others'?

He has? I didn't know that, sounds interesting. Is it available on dvd? What's it called?

Personally, I don't think that his music is better than the others. However, the others made more and the fact that he was just coming back from a five year hiatus probably contributed to the making of the legend.

It's called George Harrison: Living in the material world and is available on dvd, I think lol. On cdon it says it was released on october 10 and it cost 349 sek but on ginza it says it will be released the 23th of november and it cost 179 sek... It was shown on HBO now in October and will be shown on BBC in the beginning of November, so here's hoping svt will show it too ;)

Förresten, det var en kort notis om den där Dylan:en kärleksförklaring i gp idag. För att summera: Män.

It's strange how the life and death of people seem to contribute to their status as a legend just as much their art sometimes. That's one of the things I find so fascinating about Bob Dylan; he was just like any other small-town, middle-class kid, with no messed-up childhood or anything like that. He just turned out to be a complete genius and that's what's made him so big.

Hm, sounds confusing. Let's hope for SVT, then:)

Suck... Vi måste verkligen göra den där essäsamlingen.
