I have an interview next Tuesday. It's for an insurance firm, which seems to be the most common response I get to my resume: insurance and other financial services. That's the state of our (service) economy, I guess. Given that I've spent the last 10 years in retail, that seems to be the next step. At any rate, it would improve my financial

I hope you get the job with the insurance firm! I just spent about a month and a half searching for jobs in my town. Eventually I did find a second part-time job at the theater where I am working now. I really hope your search ends successfully as well!

One thing that helped give me peace of mind while I was searching was to continue sending cover letters and resumes even when I was tired and pessimistic. I aimed for sending one or two every day. In that way, I was able to feel that I was actively working to improve my situation.
