I guess I'm not the only one...

Not ever having worked in a call-center, I've never found it a problem until this whole need-to-find-a-job-right-the-fuck-now situation. I can relate to that. I've always been afraid of making calls.
Also being home alone a lot makes it worse...it's like being a hermit makes you afriad of people somehow...strange but true.

But it's a good excuse to use my new icon which is for just such a situation!

I learned to hate the sound of the phone ringing at Kinko's. I learned to dive for a phone at all costs at the 3rd ring even though I was pretty sure the caller didn't want to talk to me. The phone ringing was constant.

Did that wear on you?

My telephonephobia is bizarre and linked to my depression. I take strangers calls all day at work and I get freaked about calling friends and family.

I know why, and to be honest, it isn't as useful as you would think. Learning coping skills is much more useful then focusing on the why.

One of the reasons for working graveyard. Now, I don't have a problem answering, but I never ever had to call anyone when running graveyard.

I don't like making phonecalls either, but for some reason it's easier at work, because it's just part of the job. It's all about business.
