Okay, it's saturday afternoon, and Boy is at a picnic with cowerkers (apparently work folks only, no Significant Others in attendance). Montreal is at boston, and Carolina Hurricanes are at New Jersey. ABC here in northern VA is showing the Montreal-Boston game ( Read more... )

could you outline the design in chalk, then gently press it to the fabric (with a rolling pin, maybe)?

Hmm, that's definitely an idea, and the chalk could be brushed off when finished. Hmm. Think I might try that, seeing as I've got a box full of tailors chalk just laying around. :)

Hi! Thought I'd just butt-in here. :o) You can always test a corner of the velvet with the iron set to Polyester. I've ironed lycra velvet before at that setting just fine, though I know transfers would be a bit harder. Have you ever used a transfer pencil/pen? I think they require less heat to transfer the design.

This prolly isn't a problem anymore for you, but for future reference, how about using a pounce?

Punch holes with a large needle in the outline of the pattern you want to transfer. Place the holey paper over your fabric. Put loose marking chalk in a bag made out of a loose-weave fabric and bounce it along the lines of the stencil. The chalk will filter out of the bag and through the holes to mark the fabric.
