[Waking up to see a message from one of your closest friends that one of their closest friends is dead is really not how one would like to start a day. Regardless he jumped out of bed and pulled on some pants before dashing out the door. He checked every last place the two of them had ever gone together, screaming himself hoarse in the process. He had long since started crying, mostly out of frustration. Could he really never do anything to keep his friend happy ( ... )

[Sokka's in the midst of some amount of shock. Yes, everyone and everything's telling him that Aang will be back, but it's the sight of him that's making it worse; the treatment his friend's body must have received after made Sokka pretty numb to most everything else for now.]

[He's not oblivious to the pain of others, though -- not since he'd made so many mistakes ignoring it during Katara's disappearance. Sokka holds onto his friend, jaw set so he had a reminder to stay strong.]

Someone cut him open...

[Bon stares at the wall behind Sokka's back. He's doing his best not to get angry at this unknown murderer. Not only for the pain of his dear friend, but for the loss of a good life in such a way. It didn't sit right with him, never would. Instead he does what his mother used to do when he cried and rubbed Sokka's back in small circles.]

Somewhere down the line, they'll get theirs. But that'll come later. Right now we have to make sure that you're in good shape for when Aang gets back.

[He pulls back a little.]

He'll probably want to see your smile, right?

I don't want to smile right now. [At least he's willing to admit that. Still, Sokka frowns and pulls away from his friend, wiping his face and turning away.] I just want to figure out what sick jerk would do this to Aang.

Dude. If there is anything I can do for you, just let me know.

[Aang was his friend too, even though he hadn't really met Sokka yet, he'd be there for him.]

[Sokka's reply comes later.]

Keep an eye out for who might have done this -- that will help.

I'll be sure to investigate thoroughly.

[And be ready to use some intense runes to get back at who ever did it.]

Tell me if you find any leads.

I will. [A firm nod, but Sokka's not totally oblivious to your pain soon-to-be? friend. Even knowing Aang will be back, it's still a hard road to travel.] I'm sorry, Hanna.

[Kurapica didn't know Aang very well, but he was a spirited kid that reminded him so much of Gon... Needless to say, it's unsettling. It takes him a moment to rein in his shock/gloom to respond.]

What happened?

I know. It's simply difficult to believe, and still a shock.

[This is his first "death" encountered. In lieu of the news, it's hard to remember that Aang will just...come back. He hopes so, in any case.]

yeah. just don't forget k?

[He's seen it so often that he's been desensitized to it. In Killua's mind, death in Adstringendum isn't death. It's more or less a recovery period. Disappearances are much worse. When someone disappears, there's something that really does die. So when people continue to get upset over temporary death, it's as if they've forgotten the real thing, something Killua can never do.]

[If Sokka was attuned to detecting quiet fury in an almost-inscrutable voice, he'd be leaning away from his PCD right now.]

How did it happen? Are you injured?

[Sokka's reply comes a little later, and he's all business.]

He was strangled and then cut open. I don't know how it happened, but I'm going to find out.

That is highly unusual. Has anybody done a post-mortem?

A what? [He has no idea what that means, but it doesn't sound like a good thing.] Nevermind. No. Whatever that means, no.

He was strangled. Cut open. Left in the dirt. [Not really thinking rationally, sorry.] If you want to see, his body's at the clinic.

[Sokka's perched nearby Aang, keeping vigil. He's covered his friend over to avoid general gawking, and he's been waiting for morning to go out searching for clues. As soon as he sees Harry, Sokka straightens up to stand, wanting to appear more of a guard and less of a mourning friend right now.]

Harry.

[He knows.]

[Sokka casts a glance at the bed where Aang's body rests.] Someone murdered him and I don't have any idea who. Or why.
