Diamonds are Forever, but are they really necessary?

Noone in my family wears a diamond, out of practicality and in protest, of the way the diamonds are mined. Most diamonds are mined the same way nike makes their shoes, by exploiting poor families,in order for them to get their diamonds cheap and then sell them at high prices.in some cases they even spark conflicts (like the sierra leone civil war,

also i forgot to mention, if you really need to buy diamonds at least ask specifically for conflict free diamonds, so you can make sure they dont have the blood of innocents on them.

and if anyone asks, yes i've seen the diamonds are forever video and this was meant as a follow up.

im not a big diamond lover even though i have alot. my mothers a big diamond freak. in fact, my mothers a big jewelery freak period. and even though i understand that they have conflict surrounding them, that still wouldnt make me not buy it, i think, if i were my mom or anyone else who loves those rocks. theres alotta things we arent a necessity in this world and we continue to buy them. shoes for example, while a necessity, dont have to be name brand to be good. yet we spend millions of dollars a year buying Nike, Reebok and Adidas. even for our food, sometimes people have to die. now, im not supporting the killing of innocent people to mine things -- it reminds me of king leopold and the rubber farms in Congo -- but you cant blame people for wanting nice things. plus diamonds arent only used for jewelery. theyre used in dentistry and aerodynamics and all that other stuff. but still i wanna let you know im not for the killing of innocent people to retrieve diamonds! but i will admit that if i were older the only reason i wouldbt buy

i'm not blaming anyone for anything, i'm just saying, why buy them? i just personally dont see the appeal, in getting robbed by big coroporations over useless crap.

no offense but it is just your opinion khalil. Just because you dont see the beauty in diamonds doesnt mean others dont either. For example, lets take a car-> Hummer...a lot of ppl spend outrageous amounts of money for this one car when they can have any other better looking car for a cheaper price. It is all about wut suits you personally, and everyone is different.

and i'm not one for buying flashy cars. just give a car that gets me from point a to b, with air conditioning and a radio and i'm set.
