Hoist the Colours High

In lieu of a proper review...

... a Y!M conversation:

angua9: THEY CUT MY BARBOSSA/TIA DALMA SCENE!

angua9: And I do NOT understand why he couldn't say the words like a lover.

angua9: *throws temper tantrum in manner of fanatic J/E shipper*

connielane: :D

connielane: What was that scene?

angua9: It was lovely having Raghetti do it, but I DON'T SEE WHY HECTOR COULDN'T.

connielane: Ohhhhh.

angua9: Just a little scene where they were coming to Shipwreck Cove and she wanted him to use his cannons to force the other lords to turn over their pieces of eight.

angua9: And when he refused she threatened to find another captain to give her favor to.

angua9: With a very strong implication of what favors were included.

connielane: I totally can't picture Barbossa whispering in her ear like a lover.

connielane: I can imagine them BEING lovers, but not Hector being gentle like that.

angua9: It didn't say you had to say it like a gentle lover. :p

connielane: Well, clearly gentle is how she preferred it. ;)

angua9: Well, it worked, anyway.

angua9: I prefer to think she has wide tastes.

connielane: Okay, I'm all confuzzled about the curse again.

angua9: I know!

angua9: Gore clearly cut it to look like the 22-year-old, 32-year-old, 42-year-old thing!

connielane: Why every 10 years? Was that part of the deal of being the CotFD in the first place? Or was that a result of Davy cutting out his heart? Or was that Calypso's curse?

angua9: But OMG Jack was so so so so wrong to want to be CotFD!

angua9: That was the original CotFD deal.

angua9: And she didn't show after his first ten years. :(

angua9: Will can take it a lot better than Jack could have!

connielane: But then if Calypso had been true, he wouldn't have had to wait another 10 years?

angua9: Well, that's what the SCRIPT said!

connielane: But then ... who would ferry the souls?

angua9: And they shot scenes saying that. But that's not what the movie implies.

angua9: There would have to be another one.

connielane: I loved Keith Richards.

angua9: Which is kind of weird, because then Jack could have it if he wanted it, which he shouldn't.

angua9: Yeah, that was neat.

connielane: He was much better than I was expecting.

angua9: I kind of wish James had said he did fear death. :(

angua9: I mean, normally that's a terrible idea, but in this one case it would have worked out great.

connielane: We got to see Murtogg and Mullroy again!!!!!

angua9: ♥

connielane: I loved them trying to be piratey at the end ("SHIVER ME TIMBERS!")

angua9: :D

angua9: Heee, from a review on LJ:

angua9: Keep an eye out for Norrington's old sword, if I watched correctly then I think it ends up with Will, which is a nice full circle, btw.

angua9: My correction: in Will.

connielane: Yes, because Jones took it.

connielane: I didn't think about that at the time, but that's a nice little irony.

connielane: I was disappointed in my audience tonight. Not nearly joyous enough.

angua9: The good news, of course, is that if the curse is the way it seems, then Elizabeth is long dead and Will is available for hot assignations every ten years, if one could only know the time and place.

angua9: Mine was acceptable, I guess.

angua9: The midnight crowd looked a lot rowdier.

connielane: *nods*

angua9: People didn't laugh enough, though!

angua9: I needed Emily and Kirk.

connielane: :)

angua9: I WANT WILL TO BE FREE NOW.

connielane: Well, according to the writers, he IS.

angua9: Yeah, but is it canon?

angua9: Director has last edit.

connielane: But that's the way the actors are playing it.

connielane: I say the director is outnumbered. :p

angua9: Oh, and I have the greatest visions of Elizabeth trying to bring up Will III (for being such clever clogs, pirates aren't very imaginative when it comes to naming things).

connielane: LARRY!

angua9: Trying to teach him to have honor and decency and a moral center and... and personal hygiene while growing up surrounded by wobbly-legged rum-soaked pirates!

connielane: I don't think Gore cut it because he intended the curse to be different; I think he cut it because it was too hard to understand.

connielane: And there's already enough of that to go round as it is. :p

angua9: You're right, though. Will, Elizabeth, and Will III play it as a final reunion.

angua9: Or, of course, like one hell of a day they've been looking forward to.

angua9: Though if it's the latter THAT KID IS VERY INCONVENIENT.

connielane: adskjhf;kajdshf;aksdjhfa;sdkjfha;sdkjfhads

angua9: "Yes, darling, I know you've never seen your daddy before, but hurry along now."

connielane: He's totally in the way of some serious boot-knocking!

angua9:

connielane: That works unusually well when describing pirate sex.

connielane: (that phrase, I mean)

angua9: The J/E shippers, bless their bones, are just DISGUSTED at Will having some kind of fetish and making Elizabeth wear his boot.

angua9: Indeed! It's inspired.

connielane: *DED*

connielane: He wasn't making her wear it!

angua9: Yeah, I think she's the one with the fetish. :o

angua9: The crossed swords were love. ♥

connielane: Oh, I loved that. ♥

angua9: Whole new meaning to crossing blades with a pirate.

connielane: :D

connielane: Jack-Barbossa stuff was made of win.

connielane: The telescope envy!

angua9: Perfect.

angua9: I love Barbossa more than just a little.

angua9: Elizabeth is missing out on the real good stuff there.

angua9: :p

angua9: I'm glad Teague wasn't actually pirate king, as some have said.

angua9: I don't like Jack having been pirate crown prince.

angua9: Code-keeper's son is okay.

connielane: And I didn't find Elizabeth's rise to the kingship as bad as that one reviewer made it sound.

angua9: T&T didn't want to have that thing at the end with Jacky and mom and all.

angua9: That was Gore and Johnny.

angua9: Her rise to the kingship was pretty cool.

angua9: She (and Barbossa) CONNED Sao Feng.

connielane: Yeah, I love that it was ultimately jack's plan.

connielane: :D

angua9: I'm not sure I fully understand Jack's plan. :p

connielane: I'm not sure even Jack does.

connielane: OMG I loved the crazy multiple Jack stuff!

angua9: Why did he have to betray the Brethren to get on the Dutchman?

angua9: That was awesome.

angua9: I fear I wasn't impressed by the ZOMG SHIRTLESS JACK, though.

angua9: The truth scene was hotter.

connielane: I liked the multiple ones on the mast or whatever, but the one he actually talks to ... eh. Too many tattoos.

angua9: Also, one thing that was missing.

angua9: He was supposed to shoot the one of him that could love.

angua9: Did that happen?

connielane: I don't remember there even being a one of him that could love.

angua9: Yeah, me neither. But that's what the spoilers/rumors said.

connielane: They didn't seem that distinguishable to me.

angua9: I'm sure he had life histories for all of them!

connielane: :D

connielane: I was afraid the Davy/Calypso scene would be icky, but it was rather well done.

connielane: Props to Naomie and Bill, methinks.

angua9: I didn't totally understand it, though.

angua9: They're both amazing, yeah.

connielane: Loved non-tentacly Davy.

angua9: They both made promises to each other that they didn't intend to keep, right?

angua9: (shades of Lumiere!)

connielane: ?

angua9: she said if she was freed she would come back to him/for him.

connielane: Yeah, I was ?ing about Lumiere.

angua9: can't remember what he said.

connielane: From BatB?

angua9: Oh... Yeah.

connielane: I thought that was clock guy.

angua9: Oh, right!

angua9: sorry!

connielane: "flowers, chocolates ... promises you don't intend to keep."

angua9: Codsworth

angua9: &heart;

connielane: Right!

angua9: I liked Chow Yun Fat.

angua9: and his lieutenant, what's his name, was GREAT.

angua9: That was sad when the woman who giggled at Jack's name got shot. :(

connielane: Yeah.

angua9: I'm trying to remember what that naval maneuver is when you pass between two ships like that.

angua9: Possibly enfilade?

angua9: I didn't quite understand why Beckett gave up and didn't at least order to shoot back. I mean, probably the FD would bring him down since it can't be sunk, but he could have pulverized the Pearl.

angua9: Was it like that thing when you tip your king when you know you've lost in chess?

angua9: Or did he just go into a denial fugue state?

connielane: I think he just went cuckoo, yes.

angua9: Wonder what happened to Groves.

connielane: Which one is Groves?

angua9: "That's the best pirate I've ever seen."

connielane: The one from CotBP that said "best pirate I've ever seen"?

connielane: jkadh;kjadh;kjdf

angua9: So it would seem.

angua9: :p

connielane: I refer to him as "that hot guy." :D

angua9: He is that!

angua9: Not as hot as my Hector, though. ♥

angua9: :D Jack actually called him that!

angua9: Oh, in the script, Barbossa showed Jack the scar.

angua9: AGAIN WE'RE CHEATED OF MALE CHESTS!

connielane: There was no shirtless Will either, was there?

angua9: Not even a smidgen of one.

angua9: Gore's stingy.

connielane: You'd think ... on the beach and all!

angua9: I could have handled that!

angua9: He managed to show Kiera's entire legs twice, plus Naomie's.

angua9: All I'm asking is for a little skin equity here!

connielane: I had a kind of disturbing thought on the way home.

angua9: What, what?

connielane: Davy and Calypso had ... relations, I assume?

angua9: So I would presume.

connielane: Was she ... all gianty at the time?

angua9: You're thinking Hagrid's mum and dad?

angua9: Traditionally, gods and goddesses assume human form for that. :p

connielane: Or that awful movie I saw at BNAT with the pervy version of Jack and the giantess.

angua9:

angua9: Wasn't that awesome how after Will died he got EYELINER?

connielane: I didn't notice that! :D

angua9: Dead guys are way hotter.

connielane: Thank goodness I'm seeing it again tomorrow!

angua9: It's the vampire/goth look.

angua9:

angua9: I'm not! We're driving up to Mansfield tomorrow.

angua9: Probably will see it on Saturday or Sunday, though, with my sisters-in-law. :)

angua9: Raghetti seemed so hurt when Jack rejected him.

connielane: :(

connielane: I thought there was a good balance with them. Not too much.

connielane: It was funny, but I thought the on-board wedding was a bit much.

angua9: Yeah. Plus they were interesting.

connielane: (getting into complaints now :p )

angua9: I loved the wedding!

angua9: But the kiss... slow motion, fuzzed out background, AND swelling music.

angua9: Too much!

angua9: Also, is it me or was that kiss more forceful than would be quite pleasant?

connielane: I understand that it had to happen at that time, but once you commit to something like that in the middle of an action scene, then stuff like interrupting to stab people becomes obligatory and cheesy.

connielane: Yeah, a bit.

angua9: You're just jealous because they thought of it first and now you can't do it at your wedding!

connielane: I also thought they mentioned Davy Jones' curse and what happens when you stab the heart at least one time too many.

angua9: I know you were totally thinking of a "Bride" theme.

connielane: :D

angua9: Well, they certainly emphasized the word "forever"! :(

connielane: And they always said it to or around Will, on top of Tia Dalma telling him (again) that he had a touch of destiny.

angua9: That was too much.

connielane: I'm probably biased on that because I knew what would happen, but it just seemed a little DINGDINGDING hint coming through to me.

angua9: But I think they were doing that thing that writers FOOL THEMSELVES into thinking is possible where they pretend they can make it all make sense to people who haven't seen the prequel.

angua9: Like when Jack established that the only time Will shows up is when he needs Jack's help to rescue Elizabeth.

angua9: Which I thought was a good point!

connielane: :D

connielane: Was there anything in it you didn't know about beforehand?

angua9: Oh, surely T&T MUST have noticed that they gave Elizabeth the most fatal kisses in the history of the world.

connielane: Yes! Kiss of Teh Death!

angua9: Ummm...

angua9: Multiple Jacks out of purgatory.

connielane: :)

connielane: I loved part-of-the-ship!Jack.

angua9: The scene where Will and Elizabeth talk under the stars. That was in the draft script, but I thought it was gone.

connielane: I thought Bootstrap's apparent "alzheimers" was very sad.

angua9: Yeah. And with sad results.

connielane: Until he was freed and back to normal again!

angua9: I didn't know about Norrington's encounter with DJ.

angua9: Anyway, you kiss Elizabeth and you die within minutes.

angua9: Sometimes seconds.

connielane: *hopes she doesn't kiss Will III on the cheek or anything*

connielane: Kid'll be a GONER.

angua9: :D

angua9: Will in the stinger didn't come off as romance-novel-y as I feared from the bad copy.

angua9: More Burt Lancaster-y.

connielane: Hehe. Yeah.

angua9: The scene where Beckett was walking down the stairs was actually rather realistic in a cool way if you think he was walking aft just ahead of the lead cannon.

angua9: And at the same speed as the two ships, of course.

connielane: Yeah, that was an amazing-looking shot.

angua9: He was so good!

angua9: Oh! I missed a crucial line.

angua9: What did Jack say to Tia Dalma when he thought she was a hallucination?

angua9: And did he say she could go or not?

connielane: Oh gosh, what was it. Something about her trying to kill him, and she said he didn't complain at the time.

angua9: So Elizabeth has a deadly kiss, and Tia Dalma has...!

connielane: Deadly va-jay-jay!

angua9: Oh my.

angua9: I've got nothing here... nearly worked him to death?

angua9: Death by depletion?

connielane: That's my best guess.

angua9: "It's me front I'm worried about." o.O

angua9: crabs? :p

connielane: Goddesses would presumably have lots of stamina.

connielane: Yes, I thought of that too.

connielane: Though crabs don't kill, I guess. Well, maybe that many.

angua9: In the novelization it says "He turned to Tia Dalma and paused. 'All right, you're in.' He continued down the crew."

angua9: Maybe they, ummm, pinch?

angua9: Of course it's a junior novelization. :p

angua9: It did have a more consistent pace than the other two movies - particularly the second one.

connielane: Is there some connection, I wonder, to Calypso's crabs and the crabs in DJL?

angua9: Yes, she sent those.

angua9: Or made them or whatever.

connielane: Ohhhhh.

connielane: Okay, I've got to work tomorrow. So off to bed for me.

angua9: Night!

connielane: Night!

angua9: I'm thinking of posting this convo.

connielane: Go ahead!

angua9: Thanks!

angua9: Dream of pirates!

There are several exchanges in this convo about topics other than male nudity and sex! That's 'cause we're so classy.
