SHEER LUCK!

My title is a quote from my first exposure to the Holmes canon, the 1975 movie The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother. No, it wasn't Mycroft, it was his other brother Sigerson Holmes, played by Gene Wilder, courting a delightful Madeline Kahn. Sigerson pronounced his brother's name "Sheerluck," but he was JUS JELLUS ( Read more... )

Ooooh, „Sherlock“ on my Friends page - how could I resist commenting? :) It’s so lovely to see someone posting about it on LJ - I feel like almost everyone has moved on to Tumblr, and though there are some very interesting posts there, I still prefer the LJ format for in-depth discussions. Do you plan to post a review of the latest series? I’d love to hear what you thought of it, there is so much new fodder to discuss after this season, especially character-wise!

I totally agree with you about the sizzle “Sherlock” has, it has so many brilliant elements working together perfectly that seem to set it apart from other shows out there - the last time I was this blown-away by a series because it was just fresh and different was “The X-Files”, and much of what came after just couldn’t compare to how it made me feel. Watching “Sherlock” is a real treat and almost makes me purr with pleasure - it’s nice to see show creators treat their audience like sane, smart people.

Post a review? Probably not. Blather a bit about my reactions? Most likely!

Oh Sherlock! I love it. This whole season was just gold. Pure gold. You will not be disappointed tonight. Are you going in unspoilt?

Yes, totally unspoilt. Emma (who has already seen it) is coming over to watch me watch it.

Yes! Sherlock gets a bit of a kicking on my tumblr feed, but it's got an energy and genius that is rarely matched. Also the best description of Benedict Cumberbatch I ever read was "he has a voice like a jaguar trapped inside a cello", which is just right on.
