I'd never realized until you said it that there were no just-the-Trio scenes in Cursed Child, and of course my first instinct was to think that couldn't possibly be right. But yes, there are many Harry and Hermione scenes and many Hermione and Ron scenes, but if all three of them are together there's always at least one other character with them. Of course, the dialogue is chock full of references to their famous friendship, so it's not like we needed to be reminded. Still, it seems odd, especially as the last canon we had before the play so enthusiastically emphasized their Trio-ness.
You always do such a good job of getting in Rowling's head and explaining it to the rest of us. I also appreciate the way you make the choices in plotting a romance so clear, along with the analysis of many of my favorite stories. I need to go re-read Cotillion after your discussion of it. I love HP fanfiction and all the fun combinations that can result because of the plotting decisions that Rowling made, but having you defend her original choices is always fun. I personally agree that Harry and Hermione would not make a good match, but I do regret that her portrayal of the Harry/Ginny romance had some major shortcomings. I'm really happy that you are doing some writing and commenting again.
