so, at long last, there's good news on the job front. I got hired on at the Valley Camp Museum ship for the summer. They wanted someone with maintenance experience who was comfortable talking to groups. I think I can do that. And the best things is that I can quit the hotel now ( Read more... )

What an excellent job for you!

A story teller.
Being followed around by a group of semi confused but interested people in strange clothes.
Being paid to repeat the same stories again and again.
The potential for a really creepy Cthulu game setting.
A perfect excuse to don an unusual hat.
Think of the possibilities!

You want creepy? I discovered that that weird-ass Indian mural that used to hang in the Woolworth's diner is downstairs at the boat. I am so making that into an unholy relic. More unholy than it already is, of course.

I DO remember that - it's an incredibly creepy memory. My dad would take me to the diner once in a while, and I'd just stare...

All the spirits of things - the one that always stands out in my head is the corn.

Kind of beautiful, kind of nightmarish.

We can compare notes. I worked there a few years ago as a tour guide/ researcher. Yeah, I didn't so much do research as I wandered around with a piece of paper to LOOK like I was researching things. I did, however, update the painted map of the ports of the great lakes.

If you get ahold of the keys, there are all sorts of awesome places to hide in the Valley Camp.

Oh, and don't let them rope you into becoming a docent (not tour guide) at the John Johnston house. Mind-numbingly dull.

If you found places to hide, then you were doing research. That friggen boat is a maze, and I still haven't been through most of the museum parts. We've been cleaning the topside cabins, which is a bit of a flashback.

I'm playing Major Enos Cutler in the John Johnston dinner next mouth, and that's pretty damn boring.

Researcher? That's brilliant. I'll have to carry a broom to look busy. Paper is so much lighter.

Ah, yes. I played George Johnston, his alcoholic ne'er do well son. I hope that you enjoy the dance. Also, if you get to say "Susan" instead of Ojaguscodaywayquay (woman of the green glade) when referring to Johnston's wife, you're lucky.

per your hiding: there are storage closets in the mess, and many ways to get out of the public areas in the cargo holds and engine room.

Say hi to the Captain for me.
