Last Thursday night, a woman I don't know died. Her name is Sonia Sophia Belcher. She and her husband Nick are both students at the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Seminary, a few miles down the road from here. Nick is a deacon, and he is to be ordained to the priesthood soon. It is beyond words. I am grateful for your reaction and charity. Certainly, we are all, very much, in this together. It is as though we are not nearly as far from each other on a deep and personal level as we would often think. Thank you for thinking beyond that; and that is beyond words.

Thank you for your kind response.

I think often about the kind of connection you mention, and about the sheer randomness of encounter. So little determines whom we meet and befriend, even amongst people sharing a space. No doubt providence arranges it to some degree, but when watching people on the train, or hearing stories about other people's acquaintances, I often wonder if circumstance had provided, who would have found each other. We are indeed all in this together.
