While I miss Rocko's Modern Life as much as the next guy (among many, many other awesome old Nickelodeon shows), I'm pretty cool with Nickelodeon right now because I love Spongebob and am newly obsessed with Drake & Josh. Too bad it was canceled in 2007. :( But still, it's on in repeats all the time and I love it. lol Can't help myself.
I should've been more specific but I ran out of time. While I don't really care for programming on Nick outside of Spongebob I'm more frustrated with their lack of effort to release those old shows on DVD. Not only is Rocko's Modern Life on the shelf with no plans of release but Doug, Salute Your Shorts,, etc. Sure you can find Bootleg copies on Ebay or a random DVD site but the truth is that Nickelodeon is acting like those shows weren't important to a generation of kids who are now adults.
I can't say anything about Drake and Josh because I actually haven't watched an episode. But that other stuff that's on...yikes! Zoey 101? iCarly? NAKED BROTHERS BAND? It hurts me. But then again, this is just my opinion and only that.
I see what you're saying, definitely. I don't know what's up with the lack of Nickelodeon DVD series. Even Drake & Josh, which was like one of their most popular shows in years (it finished in 2007 and they did a D&J Xmas movie as a thank you to the fans this year, a year and a half after the series ended, and over 7 million people watched the premiere of it. Yeah.) and they haven't even released that on DVD. They have two "Best of" DVDs with a couple episodes on each and that's it. I don't know whether they think the audience is too young to purchase too many DVD series on their own and they don't think the parents will or what, but like you said, there are adult audiences now who would buy the old shows. There are soooo many old Nick shows I would buy on DVD - Pete & Pete, Salute Your Shorts, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Hey Dude, All That, Roundhouse, Kenan & Kel... even like the Angry Beavers or Ahhhh Real Monsters. Are ANY of those on DVD
( ... )
It's not a secret I'm a big fan of "old"-Nickelodeon. We've had many a discussion about Legends of the Hidden Temple (Blue Baracuda's!!!), GUTS, Double Dare, You Can't Do That On Television, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Roundhouse, etc. I wish Nick would get off their duff and actually start producing these DVD's. Why not? What do they have to lose? The demand is out there, believe me, fans of these shows are very loyal and will willingly shell out $40 for Doug, Ren and Stimpy or Rocko. Just upsets me that something as important to a generation is being overlooked for the programming of today. *shrug*
Remember the BIG HELP? Or Clarissa Explains It All? How about The Secret World of Alex Mack? I used to "love" her. I thought she was my perfect woman. lol. I rock! Don't hate! I even think the Wonder Years was on Nick but THAT'S on DVD!
