Because when you do it long enough(and you only have to do it up to twenty minutes a day), you get really quiet inside. I have conflict between my consideration for the zen no-mind/mushin state, and my conviction to the apotheosis of the ego (ie: the self). The former seems at odds with the latter, it appears to work towards the erosion of the self, and leave one to instincts and openness to what is.
This conflict arises from my conviction to perceiving what is. I logic that a glorified ego has powers of perception and reason capable of discerning reality. I suppose that may be my problem with mushin in this matter: the (imo) necessity of reason to discern reality.
None of this is concluded, and requires further exploration.
