nose deep and sinking fast on LJ

Jul 01, 2009 06:06

I need basic-basic LJ for dummies. I do not know how to bookmark or tag and I cannot reliably find the manga_clubhouse page. not helped that I am just not happy in other areas of  my life, I suspect...living with extended family is much more difficult than I had really assumed it would be, and I was previously aware that this would not be easy. Okay, I'll give it a shot for you. Have you read through the tutorial on the community page?

For now let's focus on the bare basics. To "bookmark" any page on LJ, simply use your internet browsers (in my case, Internet Explorer) and add it as a "Favorite" or a "Bookmark" or whatever the browser wants to call it. I recommend either bookmarking your friends page or the community frontpage for manga_clubhouse.

Since you already have the account, and have somehow managed to create a new post (and this post is in your own journal), I'll assume that deep down you have it figured out, you're just a bit flustered.

When you want to make a post, there are several ways of doing so. I will continue in a bit, so let this much sink in a little.

CR, make sure you add the Manga clubhouse to the friends list, too, so you can see the entries on the Friends page. I still can't use LJ well, either, but I can see that one gets better at this the more one uses it ( ... )

I noticed that as well with loveless and some of the shojo series I was following. Loveless had me in total lockdown but it has been so long that I have to restart it to get all the details again. The only manga magazine I really liked was Shojo Beat and that is gone now. REading online is really just not convenient for me. the office is upstairs and is just not comfortable for casual reading, not to mention the lack of privacy! am going to attempt to add the clubhouse as a friend if I can figure it out! my frustration tolerance is very very low this morning (increasingly so lately it seems!)

To add the community (or any community) as a "Friend," or as LiveJournal calls it "Watching" that community, you go to the community's profile page and click on "Watch this Community." This is different from "Joining" a community in that Watching a community will put it on your Friends page, while Joining one will allow you access to restricted (member-only) posts and posting access in some cases.

For you, I think navigating LiveJournal is going to be a lot easier if you make sure you are always logged in. At the top of the browser window you should see sort of a dark grey navigation strip with your username and some links and stuff on it. If you don't see that when you are browsing on any LJ page, you are probably not logged in ( ... )

Whoops, sorry about the html mistake. Resubmitting:

To post an entry, start by going to this page when you are logged in (you can also bookmark this page for quick access to posting entries, but make sure you are logged-in or LJ will either prompt you to do so, or deny you access). For now, open this page in a new Browser Window or a new Tab so that you can continue to read through this walkthrough as you do it ( ... )

I am going to skip all the stuff you should already be familiar with through the use of word processing software (such as Word or OpenOffice) and only going to focus on the Rich Text function of LiveJournal here, because I don't want to bog you down in html language. In the Post an Entry text box is a toolbar (at the top of the window). On the left and right are all the word processing functions you should already be familiar with, but in the middle are the functions for links, pictures, etc. Links are pretty easy. Just highlight the text in your entry you want to make a link for and click on that button. In the window that will pop-up, type or paste the url of the site you want to link to, and hit enter. That's it. To remove the Link, use the button that is right next to the Link button. The button after that is the LJ user button. It will make one of these: mo2468 as a link to someone else's journal. To use it all you need is to know the exact username of any LJ user or community. The next two buttons are for embedding pictures ( ... )
