For fun, otherwise-unobtainable items

Good evening,

Here is some more fun info about a bit of the internal works of Animal Crossing.

In the game itself, on rare occasion a "DUMMY" item appears. It usually surfaces during the winter months, when speaking with an animal in an igloo. This particular item is a placeholder, used when the programmers were making the game, which accidentally got assigned a "your character can find it" variable, more or less. The 'dummy' item is in fact one of several otherwise "not meant for the characters" items in the game. There are, within the internal-programming listing, about 60 (!) or so total. Some of them were simply items from the original (Japanese) version which the American programmers left out (as, apparently, the US would be "unable" to accept something from a different culture. *shiver*). Amongst them includes a moon dumpling, a red drum, a Zen basin, a long-life noodle and "raccoon object" (at least, this is how they are described, text-wise).

Some, such as "lucky black cat", I believe, appear later in AC : Wild World.

I look forward to the latest AC game, for the (hopefully forthcoming, this year) Nintendo Revolution! (well, "Revolution" is the in-progress title for it).

Here are some Universal Codes for items that your character, under normal circumstances, was not meant to have. Some people may equate this with 'cheating', however I would feel that 'cheating' implies that, had one followed the "rules", you could get these items. These items cannot be found / acquired / etc. at all, period, under "normal" activity. So, they we go ;)

In addition to the 11 'common' sets of furniture, there are 4 seasonal-dependent ones (ex. the Snowman series) and 1 'hidden' one ; the Super Mario theme. Here is a page which has the codes in order to get these items, if you like, for your house(s). Nintendo.com, inherently, did (slowly) release the codes for people to use.

Some more (universal) codes :

Normally, the Wing paper that the HRA sends to you is not available in the game. You can get it in the mail, however it is unorderable in your catalog. So, here is the code! It is, technically, item #8435.

A "knife and fork" which will appear in your inventory, however, once tossed out, just dissappears. Likely an "item to get to a villager" sort of thing. Just for fun.

ETA : LJ user Morigale reminded me that this may be a "Franklin, the Thanksgiving turkey" item. When I dropped it in my house it dissappeared entirely. There is a possibility it may simply be an 'alternate' code for it. The game has a few duplicate / "items in progress" codes in the database which for one reason or another they do not use.

You know the comic book that villagers sometimes ask you to deliver / return / take to a certain person? You can (sort of) have one for your own :

There are a handful of clothing items which were either in the original (Japanese) version of the game, or that other animals are wearing, which you as a character are technically not supposed to be able to wear, however since the 'clothing' variable is different from the 'person' variable (, I assume), you actually can.

One of them is the "somber robe", a sharp black outfit.

Note that the above code sort of spells out something. Several of the universal codes have silly (G-rated) messages in them.

I myself have tested all of the above codes. I have a few more, however I wouldn't want to post them without them (hopefully) working.

Although not possible under normal circumstances, with an Action Replay cheat device ( / reprogramming the game, et al.), you can have items such as trees, the Town Tune signpost, etc. in your inventory, and place them wherever you like, as well.

Random thing-to-do : At the beginning of a new game / town, when Tom Nook gives you the worker's uniform to try on, don't try it on. Take it outside, drop it, go in and get another one. Repeat until you have as many outfits as you desire.

Totally unrelated to AC note : add alternate teeny icons to your (or anyone's) LJ name here.

If there are any questions let me know. I'm happy to refine, etc.
Okay. Take care!

* Geoff
