Hmm, are the large furniture items empty? If they're tables, is there anything on them?

Have you tried another controller? If you only have the one, try unplugging it, waiting a few seconds, then plugging it back in (making sure to not tilt any of the analog sticks when you plug it back in).

You say you don't have a memory card but you have been playing for two weeks. Has the game been constantly on that whole time?

the one table is cleared of items. I have two dresses that I dropped and can't pick up, either. I don't have asecond controller, and I've tried unplugging it and plugging it back in.

and yes, unfortunately, I did have the game on for two weeks without turning it off. It has been constantly on.

I couldn't edit my post, but I wanted to add that I waited, and it finally un-locked itself. I can move stuff and pick it up. Would anyone know if there are universal codes for the other fruit besides coconuts? I'd love to have them if there are.
Thanks!

Glad to hear that it unlocked itself! That was a really strange problem. I was wondering if perhaps not being able to save caused a memory problem in the GameCube...

Check out gamefaqs.com or animalcrossingcommunity.com to see if you can find some universal codes there for fruit!
