If you're hurt and want to fix it quickly, you can kill yourself to make it better.

[The cheapening of life was never more amusing.]

I'm afraid death is an unacceptable solution to healing wounds. It may work in a pinch, but the drawbacks far outweigh the benefits.

Why's that?

There's always a penalty for character death. Loss of experience, loss of levels, loss of money... death and resurrection never come cheaply. It's something to be avoided at all costs. Just think of how the world would be if you could simply die and come back with no consequences whatsoever!

Well, to be honest, I think there's a pamphlet going around with all the standard warnings and stuff like that.

And where might I obtain a copy of this rulebook?

A guy named Dist makes 'em, but I'm sure a lot of people have a copy sitting about that they'd let you look at. I don't have one myself though or I would lend you mine.

Well, then, I'll have to inquire with this Dist fellow. Do you happen to know where he lives?

[Almaz, who just happens to live next door is watching from the yard, and can't help but stare at the stump of an arm.]

That is not mild!

Actually, he has the arm back now. It was his Valentine's regain. animalhusbandry February 18 2011, 05:31:55 UTC
I've heard that argument far too many times this past week to even count. Really, it was no problem at all.

You seem amazingly upbeat.

Well, why wouldn't I be? Now I have both arms and my magic! I'm operating at 150% efficiency compared to when I entered this town.

The drones do not notice individuals but rather respond with prescripted behaviors to any stimuli.

And the authorities of the town are not capable of furnishing items that are beyond the human brain's ability to imagine. They could not, for instance, provide me with a loaf of music.

An ingenious test of the town's capabilities! Anything else of note?

grand_theft_moe February 18 2011, 22:27:50 UTC
Besides the fact that death is of no real consequence, as you probably already know, very little. Oh, you should probably not accept any gift from the town besides a regain envelope.

Good to know. I assume the suspicious packages were the source of the recent... unpleasantness.

Every universe has its own special set of laws that reality is forced to obey. For example, we have gravity here, but in the Elemental Plane of Air everything can just fly around. What I am trying to determine is the laws of reality operating here in Mayfield. Once I know them, then I can start finding ways to exploit loopholes in the system.

Uh. Okay. Well whattaya wanna know?

Who is in charge of this town? What are their capabilities? Has anyone attempted to depose them, either by reasoned argument or strength of arms? If so, how did these attempts pan out? Is there anything that hasn't been tried? What are some locations of note? How is death handled here, and is there any penalty for dying? Are there any special exceptions to the laws of physics here that I should be made aware of?

...For starters, I suppose.
