I have to be honest, I've only seen a few of these movies (although I've loved the ones I've seen), so I may be a bit biased towards those as my first thoughts were either San from Princess Monokoe or Pazu from Castle in the Sky. I think the former is a bit too hostile, and in my defense I did look up information on other movies but couldn't find anyone who, from the brief descriptions I found, fit as well as Pazu. He's really determined, so I could see him fitting into the healthier side of the type eight description. He's pretty friendly and normally calm, but can have a fuse at the right moments. He has a natural leader type of personality, but he also defers to the main character and doesn't mind following... He's definitely curious and independent, as well as more realistic than most of the characters who aren't overly stern and cynical adults, heh.

Okay I'm pretty sure my vote is gonna sound odd... But I thought of Calcifer :D If I remember correctly he was a determined and stubborn character who could fit into the Challenger and Chaotic Good allignments pretty well XD He's curious, independent, and helpful/loyal to Howl at least... But he can be untrusting, jealous, and unforgiving if I remember correctly. I think Calcifer is more realistic, cynical, and he much prefers to follow as well! Calcifer is outwardly confident, yet inwardly horribly insecure and doubtful if I remember correctly... But since it HAS been a while since I saw Howl's Moving Castle I'll throw in a double vote for Pazu since the voter above me makes some pretty good points :)

I could see elements of both San and Ashitaka from Princess Mononoke (info here), Seita from Grave of the Fireflies (info here), Lin from Spirited Away (info here), Calcifer from Howl's Moving Castle (info here), and Nausicaä from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (info here). I also quite like the Pazu (info here) vote you've gotten too.

I think...I might be leaning towards a double-vote for both Pazu and Lin overall. Pazu is a determined and stubborn character, as is Lin. They both like helping people out, though neither character likes being taken advantage of (and I'm pretty sure Lin would get really vocal if that happened to her). They both are rather independent characters too. Pazu can be funny at times, as can Lin...though I think Lin's humor falls more into the "sarcastic" range as well. Lin is also a character who doesn't trust others very easily, and both of them are characters who take a lot to get them really mad...but also have "boiling points" (Lin in particular can be quite frightening if she reaches hers). Sadly, I haven't yet sen Castle in the Sky, but based on what others said above me, I do agree that you're a lot like Pazu. I also had thoughts of Nausicaä from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, but she doesn't seem the type who's a sensitive and caring person, or humorous really? It's been a while since I watched the movie, though, so I can't be sure, I'm sorry. Anyway, back to Pazu: He seems to be a great ft for you enneagram personality type, being self-Confident, decisive, willful, and confrontational. Like you, he's determined/hard-working, independent and helpful/loyal. He's mainly realistic, seeing the world for how it is, probably more likely to be impulsive, doesn't like having to rely on others & is outwardly confident, while having is doubts inwardly.

I'm sorry if I am a bit off but based on what I found, I am torn between Pazu from Laputa and Ashitaka from Princess Mononoke. They both seem like the determined types who would take on a challenge without backing down. They both are independent in their own ways, as well as caring. Both of them seem to be loyal, helpful and perhaps humorous types, or at least Pazu doesn't seem as serious. Type 8 fits both of them more or less, certain parts made me think more of Pazu, the rest of Ashitaka. They're both protective, confrontational, self-confident and strong. I guess Pazu also could be described as "persistent, humorous, dependable, friendly, hard-working, intelligent, loyal", as well. Your way of thinking in the last section also made me think that both of them could fit but I'm basing it more on the vibes I get form both of them rather than anything else.
