Like with most of the Ghibli themes, I'm seeing quite a few different characters possibly working for you. However, I think I'm leaning the most towards an Eboshi from Princess Mononoke vote (some info on her here, here, & here), although I don't necessarily think you'd be as violent as she sometimes is. Still, I've always thought of Eboshi as one of the more complex (and awesome! ♥) characters in a Ghibli film, and she does have a very contradictory personality to others: on one hand she allows lepers and former prostitutes into Iron Town (something previously not allowed) and gives them work and treats them kindly/respectfully, but on the other hand she's ambitious and won't hesitate to take down those who get in the way of her goals (even gods

I could see a few different characters at certain points in your application: Seita from Grave of the Fireflies ( info), Shou "Shawn" from The Secret World of Arrietty (info), Seiji from Whisper of the Heart (info), Lin from Spirited Away (info), Kushana from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (info), Ashitaka from Princess Mononoke (info), and Arren from Tales from Earthsea (info). Of those characters, I think the ones I was debating about the most were perhaps Seita from Grave of the Fireflies and Arren from Tales from Earthsea at times...but Seita does have a rather large character flaw with his pride at times that makes me hesitant to vote him here since I'm not sure you'd react the same way he does at times because of that (with everything else, he's a really good fit though! ♥) and Arren does have some really odd bouts with madness and depression throughout a majority of his film that makes me hesitant to vote him (though he would be a great fit during his more calm and saner moments once he gains more development and confidence

Part 2, apparently! XDbreyzyyinSeptember 9 2012, 19:33:26 UTC
Eboshi does have ideals, but know what it means to be realistic about approaching them. "I plan things out if they're important and I tend to think things through in general, but I can still act impulsive if I just don't care regardless. Often in day-to-day actions, I'll consider all the possibilities, but still do something reckless when it comes to the short term." fits really well with her too. She can be more cynical at times, tends to have a preference for being something of a background leader when she can (though she is more than capable of stepping in and taking the lead if no one else is willing to do so or she feels it is for the best in a situation), is more introverted when it comes to her private thoughts on things, is more independent, is very persistent when she feels strongly about something but is rather laid-back about everything else, and she's confident when she knows she is good at something

I hate that I have to keep saying this, but I haven't seen too many Ghibli films and as a result I doubt my vote's gonna be all that wonderful. To top it off, none of the characters from the movies I HAVE seen would really fit you... Except for maybe Calcifer but he's definitely not the best fit D; Don't be too surprised when I give you a Eboshi vote, but research makes me think that Ashitaka from the same movie may share a few traits with you as well. Stern but kind, she seems like one of very few characters in a Ghibli film that may come off a "contradictory or random". (As a whole animanga-styed movies have clear tropes that Ghibli seems to follow pretty well.) But Eboshi seems self-made and she seems to hlod quite a few of your positive traits despite being outspoken, argumentative, and blunt. She seems to get different opinions based on who is judging her: it seems that San has a VERY different opinion of her then those who think she's a capable leader XD I could see Eboshi as a background leader plus she seems to fit the rest of

This was tough. Not only I haven't seen the movies but I also can't find enough info to be confident with my vote. At first I considered Ashitaka, San, Lady Eboshi and Seita, maybe even with a tiny bit of Haku. I can see also a few Lupin characters, as well, probably mostly because they're from a separate series that is about stealing instead of what Ghibli movies are about. To the point, Seita seems a bit too proud from what I read, whereas San seems really aggressive and wild, as well as a little rash maybe? Ashitaka seems to be very main character-like which... well, I haven't see the movie but the vibes I'm getting from him don't fit how I see you, if that makes any sense. In the end I think I will double vote for Lady Eboshi and Arsene Lupin III. None of them fit perfectly for various reasons. Eboshi seems to be too antagonistic, Lupin too silly and so on

This was actually kind of tough because characters of Ghibli movies I've seen do tend to be either very much on the idealistic, sort of "ideal hero" side or, in case of villains, rather overbearing... nevertheless, I think you share quite a few traits in common with Calcifer from Howl's Moving Castle; I might be mixing up his character from books with movies, but I always thought he was one of the more unchanged ones in the story, so here goes: like you, he's cynical, as well as analytical, independent (as independent as he could be, that is), calm-minded (and in your way, as well, as he does tend to fire up, haha, but in the end is able to think rationally unlike the rest of the cast), clever, open-minded, curious, humorous, secretive, and he definitely does plan things without telling others, devious, sarcastic/mocking and surely rather bitter. Actually, the more I re-read the more I see of Calcifer... actually, no character in this theme (errr, probably) fits this line as much as him: "It really depends. Some assume I'm nice and
