themes: studio ghibli characters, fullmetal alchemist

Aug 15, 2012 01:37

Once again I'm very sorry for the lateness of this and I will try to post next three themes sooner than I should as my apology. Our new themes are Ghibli Characters and Fullmetal Alchemist for which I am sure quite a few people were waiting.

Stamp Example:

Stamps will be made on as-needed basis.

Due to the amount of movies and characters available for the theme, here is a few sites that can help out with descriptions. I am sorry they're not too detailed but unfortunately, I haven't seen any of the movies so I can't do much about it. These movies are popular though, so I do hope it won't be too much of a problem.

Character List:
  • onlineghibli
Only the movies in the upper section.
Click on the choosen image, then there will be "character" section on the sidebar.

  • Studio Ghibli wiki
  • wikipedia

  • Note: Two of the movies aren't included in most of these lists except for the first one as they were created befor the studio was founded. However, they're still highly associated with it so they characters from said series are available for this theme.

Huge thanks to silvertigerx for the descriptions and the_404_error who helped me out with cutting the character list a bit. We tried not to include the very minor and/or anime only characters but if you think we missed any important characters, feel free to let me know.

    Stamp Examples:

Stamps will be made on as-needed basis for now.

    Alex Louis Armstrong
Despite his towering presence and intimidating physique, Alex is decidedly softhearted and almost comically emotional, quickly bursting into tears of sorrow, compassion or joy in most situations. He is a particularly caring individual, who goes out of his way to offer aid to people in need and takes great pains to look after his friends, allies and subordinates - though his great propensity for giving hugs frequently does unintentional harm to those unfortunate enough to be embraced by his powerful biceps. With a rather boisterous demeanor, Alex appears rather fond of loud, grandstanding speeches and dramatic comments, can be unwittingly pushy in his attempts to help others and is particularly protective of youths like Edward, demanding that they eat, sleep and exercise well in order to grow healthy and strong. Proud of his own physique and believing it to be a supreme work of beauty and art, Alex frequently removes his shirt to show it off in both welcome and unwelcome attempts to buoy the spirits of those around him. He will take off his shirt on many occasions, whether it is to partake in labor, confront someone in battle, to cheer someone up, to show off and boast, or feeling extreme emotion of any kind.
As a member of the illustrious Armstrong family, Alex takes his honor very seriously and proudly wields his great strength of body and character for the military he believes exists to serve the people of Amestris. As such, he is very respectful to his superiors and an adamant protector of others on the field of battle. Alex is very seriously affected by the deaths of innocents, friends, compatriots and even enemies, freely shedding tears when faced with another human's untimely demise. As such, Armstrong dislikes violence and, while always ready to fight, prefers to settle disputes peacefully despite the known fact that his softheartedness and unwillingness to kill have kept him from receiving a promotion in all his years of military service. Alex has also shown himself to be particularly perceptive, as he was the first to recognize that The Scarred Man was using alchemy in his serial murders and is quite skilled in delivering and deciphering surreptitious messages.

    Alphonse Elric
Alphonse's calm and passive disposition exists as a foil to his older brother's more abrasive personality. Al is kindhearted, notably compassionate and patient almost to a fault, acting often out of protective selflessness for his loved ones, new friends and sometimes toward even his enemies. Despite his age, he is very mature, and often displays caution and thoughtfulness in the midst of crisis. Though Al is as passionate as his brother, he has remarked that his anger takes longer to spark and jokes that he is always beaten to the punch by Edward's outbursts. Al craves the human warmth of his former life in desperate silence, fears that he will never again know closeness, and is sometimes overwhelmed by the suspicion that he himself is not human.

    Buccaneer
Abrasive and suspicious, Buccaneer is often one to strike first and ask questions later, in fitting with the Briggs mindset of "Survival of the Fittest", and seems to enjoy violence and combat, often using vicious animal metaphors in his speech. He is loath to trust strangers and does not hold back in dealing out harsh treatment to people with whom he is unfamiliar. Despite this, Buccaneer is an incredibly brave and loyal soldier and shows his more jovial side to those whom he calls "comrade".
Like Winry Rockbell, Buccaneer is an automail enthusiast, taking great care to announce the impressive qualities of his arms to anyone who will listen, and like Edward, seems to have a taste for intimidating weaponry (for which Edward ironically mocks him). He takes great pride in his automail, although seems flattered when people admire it.

    Dante
Dante's personality and motivation are very enigmatic. She is manipulative, single-minded, devious and vindictive. In her long years as a parasitic soul, moving from body to body, her personality has apparently changed considerably: as Hohenheim lay dying after creating the Philosopher's Stone she rushed to save him, but now she cares little for the lives of others, believing those who die in order to preserve her life to be "necessary martyrs." Dante exhibits a misanthropic view of the world, believing most human beings to be "selfish, ignorant creatures", unworthy of the knowledge of alchemy and the Philosopher's Stone. As such, she has no qualms over starting wars or taking countless lives, as she is convinced that she is ultimately protecting mankind from itself. This is all Dante cares about, global politics and wars mean nothing to her, she has control of Amestris through her Homunculus Pride, and uses the whole country as a tool to gain the Stone.

    Denny Brosh
Sergeant Denny Brosh is a soldier in the Amestrian State Military, and the always present partner of Maria Ross. He is rather nosy and lazy, and has an enormous infatuation with his partner. He is very sensitive to criticism, and will fall into despair at the slightest insult. Both he and Ross are introduced when they are assigned to protect Edward Elric. In the 2003 anime, Brosh later appears in the rebellion against King Bradley, saving various characters from execution. In the manga, he appears again after Ross's apparent death. Though he is deeply saddened by the news, Ross feels it is for the best that he not know she is alive, as he has difficulty hiding his emotions. When Roy Mustang begins waging an assault on Central, Brosh rushes into the city to provide assistance against the "demon" who supposedly killed Ross. However, he soon hears Ross broadcasting support for Mustang's coup, and recognizes her voice almost immediately. He later joins Mustang's resistance group and reunites with Ross, facing her in a torrent of tears.

    Edward Elric
On the surface, Edward displays an immature sort of personality. He is decidedly stubborn and strong-willed, frequently letting his pettiness and vindictiveness get the better of him. He is somewhat selfish and remarkably self-absorbed, generally acting more out of self-interest than any sort of philanthropy as well as taking several opportunities to stroke his own ego or flaunt the governmental power and monetary license of his military position. He is largely hostile towards figures of authority and feels little incentive to follow orders with which he disagrees, earning him the distinction of being a loose cannon of sorts. Edward is also rather quick-tempered, resorting more often to steel-fisted violence than calm negotiation to settle disputes (even going so far as to suggest that refraining from hitting Paninya because of her gender is a sexist notion and, therefore, against his principles). He has a reputation for being foul-mouthed and is an incurably sarcastic cynic, only too happy to bluntly and harshly relieve others of their comfortable delusions regarding god, reality, or their own self-importance. Edward has also displayed a propensity towards impatience and an inability to sit still for long, which perhaps contributes to his love of travel.
However, for those few people who have made an impact on him, Ed shows his deeper nature to be one of marked selflessness, unflinching loyalty and great compassion. As someone who has had to suffer greatly at such a young age, Edward cannot ignore the true suffering of others and becomes sympathetic upon sensing pain and resolve in people's hearts. Though his solemn advice to such people is often tempered with brusque criticism, it is only because he genuinely wishes to place them on the most direct path forward. As one who has to struggle with a maimed body, he urges those with healthy bodies to use their strong legs to move forward, and as one burdened by the mistakes of his past, he stresses the necessity of people taking responsibility for their own errs. Though he will intervene on behalf of the oppressed if he concludes that a situation has called for it, Ed tends to help only those with the will - but not the means - to help themselves, in which case his recklessness and disdain for authority often has him bending the rules to dole out a Robin Hood-esque justice in accordance with his strong belief in the concept of Equivalent Exchange, earning him notoriety and popularity as a "hero of the people".

    Envy
Loud, brash, and impetuous, Envy posseses a very quick temper and cockiness to boot. It can easily be set off by insulting its large and delicate ego, thus causing it to make mistakes. Envy will joke around and laugh with a sadistic glee upon seeing others in pain or misfortune. It will kill without hesitation, and in the process toy with 'human' emotions before finishing them off. Envy usually does not regret any of its past actions and always looks forward to seeing others fight. It will even create pointless human conflict solely for its own enjoyment. Beneath this cruel exterior, however, Envy is secretly jealous of humans' inner strength and the mutually beneficial friendships that they share.

    Father
Father is usually seen as a very calm and somewhat serious individual. He rarely shows any signs of surprise and also has a somewhat bored look on his face in many of his appearances.
He is dark, foreboding, and has great confidence in all of his plans. During his first meeting with Hohenheim's son Edward Elric, his brother Alphonse and their friend Ling Yao, Father shows a somewhat comical, lighter side to his personality, similar to that of Hohenheim, but almost immediately after switches back to his very serious demeanor.
Father is also cold, pitiless and believes that everyone around him are nothing but tools to be used as part of his plans. The only exceptions to this may be his seven Homunculi "children", as Hohenheim had stated during their battle that one of the reasons he had created them was because he wanted a family of his own, hence his title of Father. Father is seen with a surprised and sad look immediately after Hohenheim states this. His thirst for power seems to be the only thing more important to him than his Homunculi, noted when he does not hesitate to abandon Pride in exchange for resupplying his Philosopher's Stone or to absorb Greed into his body to resupply it. Unlike Lust or Envy, Father has also stated that he feels no hatred or condescending feelings towards humans. He confesses to Edward that he merely sees humans as nothing more than stepping stones for himself, explaining his outright indifference towards them.
Despite his normally calm, brooding, calculating personality, he is shown to be extremely excited when his plans finally come together, showing a wicked, gleefully evil side to his personality. When outside of his human container and revealing his true form, he is often seen with a wicked grin.

    Gluttony
Well he's pure creepy and he eats people and his intelligence is simply off the charts... in the wrong direction.

    Greed
True to his name, Greed is very, well... greedy. He wants nothing more than to own the whole world, and he possesses the cunning to try to realize that dream. Brash, independent, and arrogant to his core, unlike the other Homunculi, he holds no allegiances to superiors, due to the way he regards himself, and at the beginning of the series, has already defected from their scheme. Despite this, he genuinely cares about his subordinates, and shows them loyalty in return for their service. When others show him kindness and approach him in peace, he is shown to return the favor, though he does not drop his arrogant demeanor. Significantly, he is also very honest and rarely ever tells lies, despite possessing the cunningness to pull off manipulation at the most opportune time. In truth, what he yearns for the most is friendship.

    Izumi Curtis
Although Izumi takes apparent pride in being a simple housewife and introduces herself as such to anyone who asks, her attractive and humble exterior belies a fearsome disposition such that Ed and Al become terrified at the mere thought of aggravating her. She is prone to swift acts of violence and is often seen dealing out physical harm, but despite her frequently aggressive nature, Izumi is a remarkably caring, wise and perceptive individual always willing to help those in need, especially children. That being said, she is also a great advocate of helping people to make their own way and will usually only intervene on behalf of those with the will - but not the means - to help themselves. Though she has a great deal of alchemical skill and faith in her alchemical power, Izumi frequently values the idea of working hard and only using alchemy for things that cannot be done by hand, stressing to others that alchemists are still only human and have human limits. Additionally, Izumi appears to greatly enjoy travel (a trait she may have passed on to Edward), as many of her appearances in the series find her journeying outside her hometown.

    Jean Havoc
is one of Colonel Mustang's most trustworthy subordinates at the Eastern Headquarters and one of the few privy to the Colonel's goal of becoming Führer. A self-proclaimed 'country boy', Havoc is usually rather laid-back and almost never seen without a cigarette in his mouth, but is an honest, loyal and hard-working soldier who leads his own subordinates by example. Although not the most intelligent, Havoc more than makes up for his simplicity with common sense and cleverness - often providing a sarcastic, real-world perspective to counter the over-the-top antics of his comrades - as well as a particularly high combat aptitude. But the fair-haired son of eastern Amestrian shopkeepers does have a noteworthy weakness: throughout the series Havoc's poor luck keeping a girlfriend plays a recurring theme, as shown when he is forced to leave a new relationship in East City when being transferred to Central with Mustang and when he is spurned by Major Alex Louis Armstrong's younger sister Catherine Elle.

    Lan Fan
At first glance, Lan Fan is but a quiet girl who is extremely devoted to serving her master. However, her unassuming nature conceals a fiery passion that sometimes jumps to anger, an unyielding tenacity, particularly when it comes to protecting those who are important to her, even at great cost to herself. On the battlefield, she is a determined warrior who gives not an inch even when pushed to her limit. Off the battlefield, Lan Fan speaks seldomly, distant to most people except a very few whom she will forever remain loyal. Towards others, she is polite and respectful but assertive about herself, and speaks candidly and directly. Modest, Lan Fan prefers to remain in the background and wear a mask; she becomes easily flustered when unmasked, especially in the presence of Ling. When serving, she is serious and focused.

    Ling Yao
On the surface, Ling comes off as a rather silly and lighthearted person, frequently engaging in comical behavior and retaining his oft-present grin even while making threats. On the reverse side of his frivolous nature is his considerable shrewdness, which makes him quite capable of reading people and situations in order to manipulate them to his liking. He is particularly observant, taking into consideration even the smallest details of his surroundings in order to better understand and deal with challenges. Ling also has a remarkably tenacious will that allows him to overcome virtually insurmountable obstacles and accept inhuman burdens for the sake of his ultimate goal. Though very proud, he is also able to put aside his pride to get something doen. As a prince of Xing, Ling understands that a king's right to rule is granted willingly by the people and strongly takes to heart the idea that the people are served by their liege, rather than the other way around.

    Lust
Lust, too, possesses her signature trait, and is portrayed as using her sexual appeal multiple times. She is quite intelligent and loyal to the Homunculi's plan. Within the organization, she holds a position of authority, and is bossy at times. Lust also has a great disdain for humans, thinking them frail, predictable and generally stupid. Moreover, she appears to take pleasure in using and throwing them away.

    Kain Fuery
Sergeant Major Kain Fuery is an Amestrian soldier originally stationed at the East Area Headquarters in East City and one of Colonel Roy Mustang's most trusted subordinates, hand-picked by the Colonel for his abilities and qualities. Sergeant Fuery is an expert with communications and surveillance equipment and states that his childhood hobby of tinkering with radio technology grew into a career when he joined the Amestrian military, as his superiors recognized his talents. Throughout the series, it is apparent that most of Fuery's usual duties involve fixing radio and telephone equipment and laying communication cable. Kain is a very kind individual as well, nearly always wearing a smile on his bespectacled face. This is earliest displayed when Fuery found a small puppy out in the rain and went out of his way to make sure it found a good home instead of leaving it where he found it. Mustang specifies that he chose Fuery to serve under him because of the way the young soldier took care of his own subordinates. Kain is often a cheerful and optimistic source of support for the other members of Mustang's unit as well as the Elric Brothers and, despite his timid appearance and limited combat experience, is hardly a novice soldier.

    Maes Hughes
For the most part, Maes' personality is decidedly amicable and cheerful, even to the point of being considered annoying by his closest acquaintances. He nearly always appears randomly, jovially butting in while something important is being discussed and is rather well-known in Central for shirking his many duties just to have a chat with friends, even while griping gleefully about how much his paperwork is piling up. Hughes is also a rather forcefully hospitable person, never taking "no" for an answer when offering a position under his authority or a night's stay in his house and even going so far as to physically drag people behind him without waiting for their consent - prompting the Elric brothers to call him a "kidnapper" on more than one occasion.
Of course, his biggest and most noticeable character trait is the idolatrous infatuation he has with his wife, Gracia, and his three-year-old daughter Elicia. He is pretty obsessive and protective when it comes to the two of them. Because of that, he is constantly advising his friends Roy Mustang and Edward Elric to hurry into marriage themselves, much to Roy's annoyance and Edward's embarrassment.
Behind this behavior, however, is a markedly trustworthy and particularly intelligent military officer who always goes the distance to look after the people close to him. As a soldier involved with investigations and court-martials as well as a veteran of the Ishval Civil War, part of Hughes' buoyant demeanor may actually be a shield to protect himself and his loved ones from the darker aspect of his profession. He is a realist, decisive and shrewd, who is able to cut out what is unnecessary and focus on the most important aspects of a given situation. With his great eye for detail, Hughes is often the first to notice unfavorable patterns in a given situation and can plan accordingly, often calling for a strategic retreat or a change in tactics moments before anyone else realizes it's necessary. He is calm and analytical, not even flinching when a situation calls for him to deal with dead bodies or even deal out death himself and acts sharply even in high-pressure conditions. As a realist, he also understands and accepts that some situations cannot be rectified cleanly or honestly. Even so, he retains a soft spot for idealists like Roy and is prepared to burden as much of the darkness as it takes to ensure that idealists can shape the world into a better place.
Maes, despite all his goofball antics, is a rather wise man for his age and is prone to doling out sagely advice to the people he has invited into his extended family, including Roy, the Elrics and even Winry Rockbell, in order to make sure they take the correct path to the happy future.

    Maria Ross
Second Lieutenant Maria Ross is an Amestrian soldier stationed in Central City under the command of Major Alex Louis Armstrong. Described as honest, decent and caring by her superior officer, 2nd Lt. Ross is an exemplary soldier capable of balancing her dutiful professionalism with her personable human side.

    May Chang
A girl from Xing knowledgeable about Alkahestry, May comes to Amestris determined to seek a philosopher's stone in order to help her clan contest for the throne. Towards others, she is gentle and polite. Generally cheerful, she can be silly and is quite the imaginative girl, often going on flights of fancy. In combat, she is fierce despite her deceptively small size. Though she is very knowledgeable, as a child, she can also be naive and easily-fooled, even if she simply has her people's best interest in mind.

    Olivier Mira Armstrong
Four words: survival of the fittest. As her mantra, they sum up her views of the world, her way of living, and her personality. For Olivier is a fierce believer that the weak serve the strong, and only the strong survive. She is the commander of Briggs in the northern part of Amestris, and has a firm take-no-prisoners policy, ruling with an iron fist. Her personality is as cold as her environment, and she tolerates no weakness; her subordinates have nicknamed her the "Ice Queen". Sharp-tongued and highly combative, Olivier is no stranger to furious chastisements and bursts of fiery violence, especially toward those who fail to live up to her high standards. That being said, she is extremely perceptive and adaptive, able to coolly judge which courses of action will lead to the most beneficial results and capable of thinking and acting on the fly in response to unpredictable or mutable circumstances. She applies her harsh guidelines to herself as much as she does to others, believeing they should leave her behind if necessary. Olivier is a deceptively caring and selfless individual, prone to taking great risks in order to protect the lives and well-being of those who have placed their trust in her.

    Pride
The highest-ranked of the Homunculi, deferring only to Father, Pride takes the form of a boy in the manga. He serves as a leader for the others, who obey him without question. Ruthless, he has little mercy or compassion for humans, and is wholeheartedly dedicated to Father's quest. Showing his name, he is very cocky and arrogant, often mocking others while fighting them by referring to them with faked respect. He possesses a lot of cunning, able to get out of sticky situations.

    Riza Hawkeye
Riza is a quiet, collected woman, with a serious but courteous demeanor. She is strictly disciplined and extremely rational, rarely relaxing when on the job, Though from the outside she might seem strict, rigid, and even a little mean, Hawkeye is not as cold and distant as she may appear. Those close to her know that there is more to her than her no-nonsense attitude; beneath her professional aura is a kind soul who understands the difficulty of carrying a heavy burden. Towards others, she sometimes shows a protective, nurturing side, such as when talking to the Elric brothers. She’s not prone to public displays of affection, preferring to show her feelings through more subtle ways. Hawkeye seems the personification of "tough love," demanding excellence from those she respects or considers important. Reticent, she doesn't speak unnecessarily or express her feelings often through words, but reveals her most of her thoughts through nonverbal communication, with trademark sharp looks and rare, subtle smiles. Hawkeye emerges from the war with a tremendous will, strong enough to shoulder the heavy guilt she willingly bears, and uses this motivation to stand along side and support Mustang in the hopes that future generations will remain free of the horrors of something like Ishval.

    Rosé Thomas
Rosé appears to be a rather naive girl who truly believes Cornello can bring back her boyfriend to life. She then becomes a dedicated and faithful believer in the new church of Letoism, hoping that if she does good, it will increase her chances of bringing him back. When the Elric brothers arrive in town, they help her open her eyes to the fact that Cornello is a fraud using alchemy to do his miracles, lying to the town about being the son of Leto. Distraught by this, Rosé doesn't know what to do, and Ed just promptly tells her that the only thing she can do is keep moving forward because she has two perfectly good legs to stand on. In the manga and 2009 anime series, she took Ed's words to heart, she helps to rebuild the town. However, in 2003 anime, near the end of the series, Rosé returns again, this time as the holy mother of her town. During the rebellion in Reole, half of her race had been slaughtered and she had been captured by the military and assaulted and raped by a soldier. Due to the trauma being raped and as a result, impregnated, she became a mute.

    Roy Mustang
Colonel Roy Mustang is a man of facades, sporting a surface that reveals none of his motives, nor his very resourceful and intelligent nature. Incredibly calculating, he lets others see only that which he chooses. Above all, the Flame Alchemist is a tenacious man, ruthlessly pursuing his goals and dreams to the end, never giving up. One thing that is immediately obvious about him is that he is very ambitious, with his ultimate goal of ascending to the position of Fuhrer. As a result of his cunning nature, determination, resourcefulness, and talent, he has climbed quickly through the ranks of the military. Roy is a visionary, wanting to put his dreams for the future of Amestris into action. Fittingly for his dream, Roy is an excellent leader, possessing not only the strategic capability but also the ability to inspire the best out of his followers. His bond with his men is one of the major points of his story, as for every bit that they are loyal to him, Roy is just as loyal to them, having sworn to protect them in any way that he can. Through life, Roy is extremely adaptable, able to learn from every experience or downfall he has, and keeps surging ahead to his goal. He possesses an abundance of confidence, though at the same time he can also be self-loathing, in the aftermath of events in Ishval. Though his convictions are strong and he has a steadfast resolution to attain his goal, he now tries to minimize taking innocent lives to reach it. Despite his experiences during the war and afterwards in seeing the true colors of the military, Roy continues to maintain faith in his ideals of wanting to protect as many people as he can. He adapts a more pragmatic and realistic approach after Ishval, but continues to pursue his vision. For the most part, Roy is a calm and collected man who thinks thoroughly and carefully about his plans and schemes. However, there are times when he is quick to anger, and once he is that angry, he is a force of nature. He has a notable vengeful streak.

    Scar
At first, Scar is an Ishvalan man consumed by revenge and anger against State Alchemists for their actions against his people. Described as an image of "wrath personified" (though he is distinct from the actual Wrath in the series), his alchemy skills specialize in destruction, and he serves as a force of terror to even trained State Alchemists, easily taking out many. Feeling that he no longer deserves real name, he names himself Scar to reflect this destructive strength. As the story progresses, Scar gradually learns to tame and channel his anger, symbolically mastering the art of reconstruction in addition to desctruction. Even in the middle of his bloody vengeance, Scar is willing to show a degree of compassion toward others, honoring last requests and offering a chance to pray before dying. Having had his people stolen from him, Scar sympathizes with those who care for their loved ones and looks after those who have lost their place in the world. Additionally, he is very protective of his surviving kinsmen and takes all their words of encouragement or chastisement to heart. He does not speak very much and is characterized by a generally stoic demeanor, destructive anger aside. Though he is misguided, he is wise and a skilled rhetorician.

    Sheska
Sheska has revealed that she has rather low self-esteem, considering herself worthless and her passion for reading nothing but a hindrance. She has been fired from several jobs for her preoccupation with books, which is problematic because she has to pay her sick mother's hospital bills. After receiving a large sum of money as payment from Edward and kind words of encouragement from Alphonse, Sheska is able to move her mother to a better hospital and starts to believe in herself a bit more.

    Sig Curtis
He met Izumi when she was 18-years-old somewhere in the northern regions of the country, and both immediately fell in love at first sight. Despite his perpetually angry-looking face, Sig is quite a nice person and laments the repellent nature of his visage. He is very devoted to and protective of Izumi, constantly worrying about her bad health and often needlessly rushing to her rescue when he senses danger (as he did when she was approached by Ulchi at Devil's Nest and when she was "stabbed" by Van Hohenheim ) and becoming jealous when Izumi speaks fondly of other men. Sig has mentioned that he blames himself for not realizing sooner that Izumi had been experimenting with Human Transmutation. Sig takes great pride in his significant musculature, pitting it against that of Alex Louis Armstrong. Seeing each other's "perfectly sculpted" bodies earned the others respect. As a result, the two bonded in what Mason referred to as "a friendship forged from muscle."

    Sloth
Forced into hard, grueling, seemingly neverending labor by Father, Sloth wants nothing more than to rest. Everything he is forced to do, and even living itself, is always "bothersome". Though he is big and muscular, "dim-witted" does not quite cover it.

    Solf J. Kimblee
In Brotherhood, Kimblee occupies a very gray area between the sides of the protragonists and the antagonists. Often shown philosophically pondering, he takes to heart the idea of "survival of the fittest" and is willing to see the end of humanity and the rise of a new order simply to prove that he can survive and is therefore one of the "strong". Mostly, he seems to be amused by the struggles of humans. He respects the strong and determined, but cares little for human life as a whole. Cool and mannerly, Kimblee is an avid philosopher and skilled rhetorician who argues his nihilistic viewpoints well enough to silence most naysayers. He is very analytical, manipulative, and calculating when executing plans and in observing life in general. At the same time, he also possesses a strong sense of pride.

    Van Hohenheim
Though Hohenheim's devotion to alchemy and the mysterious circumstances under which he was witnessed abandoning his young wife and sons gave the man the impression of being cold, he is an unexpectedly softhearted, kindly individual who is quick to give compliments but loath to accept them. Hohenheim appears to care very little for his own well-being, much less his dignity, and is therefore often put in situations that give him the impression of being goofy or eccentric, adding greatly to the series' comic relief. Slow to anger and apparently a bit of a pacifist, Van Hohenheim would much rather talk out disputes than fight, frequently doing so even while he himself is under vicious attack. Chief among his personality traits appears to be his hopeless romanticism, given his propensity for spouting sappy lines about his love for Trisha Elric, his readiness to weep openly over her and his charming treatment of women in general. Van Hohenheim lacks the ambition of others, clearly content to take his time dealing with things that do not demand urgency, but in his youth had a hair-trigger temper much like that of his son and became irrationally angry when taunted for his ignorance.

    Vato Falman
Vato Falman is an Amestrian soldier initially stationed at the East Area Headquarters in East City and one of Colonel Roy Mustang's most trusted subordinates, handpicked by the Flame Alchemist for his outstanding abilities and qualities. Falman is an intelligence expert with a remarkable memory capable of recalling even the most minute details of any location, situation or person. In addition to being an honest and hardworking soldier, Mustang recruited him as a sort of walking recording device, able to store information without leaving any physical evidence. Because his intellect is his area of expertise, he does not have much experience in the field, causing him to make rookie mistakes when in a combat situation. He is overly formal and responds to simple or offhand questions with an encyclopedic response, causing some of his comrades to wish he would lighten up.

    Winry Rockbell
Winry is a very emotional, strong-willed and emphatic person who puts all her heart and effort into the things she does. Enthusiastic about machinery, Winry is most at home near cranking gears, whirring bearings and the smell of oil and becomes absolutely giddy when given the opportunity to interact with and learn about such things, causing Edward to mock her as an "engineering otaku" or a "crazy gearhead". She is stubborn and straightforward, often calling others out for their weaknesses and delusions. Though she shares this trait with Edward, Winry is a bit more tactful with her honesty and usually only displays this side of herself to her closest relations. Winry's stout heart allows her to make difficult and dangerous choices very easily so long as they coincide with her strong sense of duty and morality. Contributed to by both of these characteristics is her willingness to work with almost excessive devotion on the various automails whose maintenance she undertakes for the sake of the people who depend on her, going so far as to take multiple consecutive overnight workshop sessions and travel long distances without hesitation in order to ensure their prompt and proper completion. Kindhearted and empathetic, Winry is the type of person who consistently tries her best to aid and support the people around her. She is very sensitive to the pain of others and has been known to cry frequently on behalf of people who won't cry for themselves, earning her the distinction of being a bit of a "crybaby" in Edward's eyes. As one who values family (immediate and extended) above most other things, Winry is a bit of a worrier and concerns herself with the welfare of people she cares about. It is likely this care that makes her so popular with her clients in Rush Valley, all of whom are greatly moved by the attention to personal detail that she willingly gives to each of them.
However, on the other side of her sensitive and emotional nature is a temper that easily rivals - if not overshadowing - even that of Edward Elric. When insulted, hurt or embarrassed, Winry is prone to lash out violently - though typically the victims of such tantrums are Ed and Al, in which case she has been known to use her own wrench as her main weapon.

    Wrath
At first glance, Wrath's name appears to contradict his extremely calm and collected nature. As the commander of the nation, he has strong leadership qualities, including clear strategic thinking and vision. On a daily basis, Wrath is very stoic, seldom caught off-guard, and even seems to be amused by some of the chaos. surprisingly often, he is seen joking around with his subordinates. As someone who has lived eons of a controlled, planned life, he seemingly welcomes the unpredictability that humans bring to him in the couse of the story. He is also scornful of the idea of fealty or sacrificing one's life for others, believing only that the strong should survive and that the loss of one life can only be balanced by the loss of another. However, his calmer surface belies the explosive anger within, capable of great destructive power when unleashed.
