For You

With everyone’s busy schedule keeping them from seeing each other, Kangin realised that he hadn’t seen Leeteuk in over a week. To him, it felt a bit weird not seeing his counterpart in such a long time but he brushed it off, thinking that that’s the consequence of being idols in Korea.

The only glimpse of Leeteuk he had seen is in magazines, newspapers and on the TV when he modelled for the S/S Seoul Collection. Kangin remembered seeing Leeteuk smile and laugh happily for the interviewer at the dark backstage of the model show. He had sighed sadly, knowing the leader’s mood from instinct as something in his mind told him that Leeteuk would appear on various variety programs soon.

It wasn’t until when Heechul snaps angrily at him for no reason that he realises how broken Super Junior was at that moment. Super Junior M was still in China, busy with their activities, Heechul and himself was filming Band of Brothers for Mnet, Eunhyuk and Leeteuk was busy with Sukira and other variety shows (so Kangin guessed) and in all honesty, Kangin wasn’t sure of the rest of Super Junior’s schedules.

It felt like Super Junior was broken up and separated to different parts of the world.

That night, Kangin visited Leeteuk to hug him, to hold him and to surround him with reassuring words. If Kangin had noticed how broken up Super Junior was then he was certain that Leeteuk had as well.

With his arms full some cookies he was able to quickly make, Kangin’s hand grasped the doorknob of Leeteuk’s bedroom door and was about to turn it. He had been able to enter the dorm without Leeteuk being notified and was happy for once that he could offer a decent surprise.

Just as the springs of the doorknob began to turn, soft sobs drifted through the door and to Kangin’s ears. He froze and leaned in to listen what was happening, allowing for his body to take up the hallway since everyone else was out, busy with their schedules.

“Umma…how are you?”

Silence followed as Kangin strained to listen to Leeteuk’s conversation. It hadn’t even occurred to him that he was eavesdropping on a private conversation between Leeteuk and his mother but he didn’t care as Leeteuk continued.

“Yes I’m healthy. Really, I’m eating well.” A sigh. “Umma…I need help. I don’t know what to do anymore.”

Upon hearing this, Kangin moved his ear from the wooden surface and stared at the door sadly.

“I’m so tired and stressed recently…I don’t know if I should go on like this. Umma, I don’t know what to do. I gave up so much to get to where I am but I don’t even know if it’s worth it anymore.” From what Kangin heard, Leeteuk had started to sob as he whimpered into the phone.

There was another long pause as Kangin heard Leeteuk sob even harder at something his mother said.

“B-But I don't feel like I’m leader anymore. I feel so awkward around everyone now. Umma, what should I do? Umma, please?”

Backing away from the door, Kangin looked at it as he too sighed tiredly. Normally he would barge into the room and comfort him but with the busy life he was leading, he wouldn’t be able to stay longer than an hour. Upon hearing light taps upon keys, Kangin knew it was time to take his leave, as Leeteuk would be updating his Cyworld to let out his pain to the world with cryptic messages.

Knowing that it was best for Leeteuk to be left alone in his own thoughts, Kangin left his cookies upon the kitchen counter before returning to the car that waited below to drive him back to the place he was filming at.

With the streetlights dancing upon his face as the driver drove to the studio, Kangin pulled out his phone and accessed Leeteuk’s Cyworld from it. He guessed that he gave the leader enough time to update as his fingers flickered over the small keys.

By the time he reached the studio where Heechul greeted him, Kangin’s mood had severely decreased. He tried to smile at Heechul but the smile only met his face halfway.

Seeing the sadness behind the failed smile, Heechul lightly pushed the other’s shoulder. “Yah, I thought you wanted to go back to the dorm. Why are you so sad all of the sudden?”

“We’re just so scattered recently.” Kangin looked up from his phone and stared at Heechul’s confused face. “Don’t you feel empty? Like pieces of you are missing?”

“I’ve been feeling that for almost a year now. It’s been so long since I saw the others.” All of the sudden, Heechul took Kangin’s hand and called back to the producers on set. “We’ll be back in a moment! Getting something to eat.”

Kangin spied a convenience store nearby and ran to it with the craving of spicy chips on his tongue. He didn't notice Heechul linger behind at a closed DVD store with the Super Junior concert poster plastered over the windows.

Noticing that Heechul wasn’t with him, Kangin turned around and was about to call out for him, despite the attention that would be drawn to themselves, when Heechul appeared next to him looking slightly miffed.

“What happened to you?”

“Nothing! It’s none of your business!” snapped Heechul as he patted his bangs and stared into his reflection of some metal surface.

“Okay, whatever you say.” It sort of disturbed Kangin at how disorientated their group was but he held his head high and tried to think positive thoughts. For himself and for Super Junior.

Later that day when it wasn’t two in the morning, Kangin checked Leeteuk’s Cyworld once more, to make sure the anti’s didn’t flood his Cyworld with stickers again and saw another post by Leeteuk.

Just as he lifted his phone to dial the leader and confront the leader with his problems, he was pulled aside by the stylists, brushing and tidying his hair from the minimal hours of sleep he got. He sighed sadly as his new schedule began.

As night took over the day, Kangin found himself at the radio studio with Taeyeon, both waiting in the lobby area for their airtime. He had gone through the day without calling Leeteuk and realised that now was his chance to contact him. Excusing himself, Kangin jogged to a secluded area and dialled the number that was ever so familiar to him. He really should set his numbers on speed dial.

“Hello? Kangin-sshi! It’s been a while!!”

“Yeah, it has. Leeteuk-sshi, how have you been? Ryeowook told me that you haven’t been eating properly.” It was a lie but Kangin was pretty sure that was the case.

“Yah, Kangin, don’t tell me you called me just to berate me.”

Kangin chuckled. “Okay, okay, I’ll let it go. You’re busy with shows recently yeah?”

It was Leeteuk’s turn to chuckle. “Yeah. Did you see the model pictures? Keke, call me model Teuk from now, Kangin-ah.”

“Leeteukie, the model. I like that.” Kangin smiled softly and switched his language to the English that he knew the other would laugh at. “Man, you were so gorgeous!”

“Really? Thank you! Wow, you so gorgeous!”

The conversation that followed was mainly made up of the two yelling ‘You are so gorgeous!’ and other random English statements into their phones but Kangin didn’t care because he knew from that conversation, Leeteuk would feel slightly better.

Just as Kangin was about to hang up as both of their radio sidekicks had started to wave madly at them to signal that it was time to go, he whispered quickly, “Jungsu, please be healthy. Even though you can’t do everything, you’ll always be a legend to everyone.”

Kangin held his breath as silence floated from the other side.

“Thank you, Youngwoon-ah. Thank you.”

Feeling his mood lighten, Kangin went back into the warm studio where Taeyeon waited for him, waving their heart pens at him. He sat down at the DJ seat and watched as the red light started to blink to signal that they’re on the air.

“This is Taeyeon…”

“…and Kangin’s…”

“Chin Chin Radio!”

He had to admit, whenever he did radio, he felt his stress of his shoulders be lifted slightly as both of the radio DJs started to dance to the song that was being played. He smiled, understanding why Leeteuk would go insane on Sukira.

Just as the song finished and ads came on, Kangin patted Taeyeon on the back to signal to her that he was going to do something quickly. Taeyeon gave the thumbs up and lip-synced to the ad that was being played.

Kangin took out his phone and accessed Leeteuk’s Cyworld once more but this time, with the intention of being Leeteuk and posting on his Cyworld. He had found out how to post on other people’s Cyworld from Kyuhyun as the magnae had done something similar on one of the member’s Cyworld. He couldn’t remember whose but he remembered that the entry was deleted straight away.

He stuck is tongue out and bit on it gently as he hoped his phone would be able to post the long entry onto the Cyworld. Upon seeing the happy faces and the yellow and red OK button flash across the screen, Kangin sighed happily, knowing that his efforts didn’t go to waste.

Kangin slipped back into the seat next to Taeyeon who threw a look at him. “Oppa, is everything okay?”

“Yeah, everything is good.”
