oh, Korra. you know I thought from the last series that the Avatar creators didn't like ship wars, that they thought it was dumb, but if that was so, how are there so damn many right in the first five episodes? I'm not saying I don't love all these delicious love triangles but that is INSANE. And while I'm on the subject of Korra, I can't help but ( Read more... )

I think you're not supposed to be entirely against the equalists. I mean, that's the point. (The point is that they HAVE a point, even if it doesn't justify hateful rhetoric or kidnapping or forcefully taking away people's bending.)

lol I think the answer to that is that ship wars aren't happening in the canon, they're happening in the fandom. Multiple ships possibilities and love triangles make a canon interesting. Ship wars are just a dumb thing that fandoms do in reaction to that. I can definitely see why the creators like to put lots of shipping possibilities in the show but still say that ship wars are dumb. I completely agree with them.

lol yeah but with the ship wars I was thinking they seem to think that shit is stupid but they're practically INVITING it right now. But I'm glad there IS so much for shipping possibilities. More variety of fic. (I'll wait til end of the first season to seek out fic.)
I think I did consider that the creators are aiming towards "you aren't supposed to hate the equalists" and maybe have an episode later where Korra understands this and starts heading towards a peaceful resolution but I forgot to add anything about it because they're trying so dang hard now to portray them as the villains. They're called evil, they have scary-ass (but hella cool) costumes and spooky deep voices, they give Korra nightmares- its real hard not to see them as villains lol so it seems like it'll be a while until Korra starts aiming for peace with them.
you know what we need that'll start to fix this, we need a non-bending badass whose a regular, we need a Sokka.

Korra is better off without a love interest. Period.

I'm kinda hoping that the arc of the series will run toward us finding out how really messed up it is in Republic City (and the world at large) if you're just a normal person and can't martial-arts the elements into doing your will that'll end with Korra apologizing and doing some sort of epic Avatar stuff to balance the scales.

That said, I kinda hope there's an episode at some point a lá "Zuko Alone" wherein we follow one of the chibenders Korra beats up or sommat 'cause when you come down to it, they're kind of the heroes of the everyman.

Benders rule the city (Tenzin and co.), they're the cops (Lin's metalbenders) and they're the gangsters. They pull fire outta the air and make the ground underneath you try and kill you and maybe even pull the water right outta you and beat your friends to death with it; and then there's a bunch of brave people running TOWARD the superpeople and fighting them hand-to-hand.

what this show really needs are some non-bending badasses right now to even the odds, we need a Sokka, Mai and Ty Lee. I don't think there even ARE any non-benders in the show right now that aren't being portrayed as bad guys because they just want everybody to be on the same level.
