Dearie me, I have never done anything like this before, so if it ends up a mess, don’t be too hard on me.
OK, let’s start out with some background information. Does the abbreviation IDAHO ring a bell? No, I’m not talking about one of the states of America here. IDAHO is an abbreviation of
“International Day Against Homophobia”.
It is celebrated on May 17th because in 1990, on this date, homosexuality was removed from the International Classifications of Diseases by WHO (“The World Health Organisation”). About time, right?
Why I am bringing this event up?
So this year, as a celebration of IDAHO, I am asking anybody who should be interested to contribute with a piece of fiction or art that can highlight that “in reality it is homophobia that is shameful and must be deconstructed in its social logic and fought against openly” as quoted in Wiki’s article.
Since I do not know how great a success it will be (success here meaning “a contribution besides my own turned in; any contribution”), the rules are few and the limits broad, but still note-worthy - hence the following.
Rules:
1. All kinds of fiction are welcome. Poems, drabbles, long fics, short fics, fanfics, original fics. As long as they are based on the prompt below.
2. The same goes for art. Drawings, manips, any kind of media, really - again as long as it is based on the prompt below.
3. Fanfic/Fanart can be from any fandom people could feel inspired to work with. Anime, TV shows, films, books - you name it. RPS, however, is not allowed this time around. Sorry.
4. Only contributions posted before or on the date of May 17th will be accepted, unless I’ve been informed of a contribution being late beforehand. If any contributor suspects he will be late, feel free to contact me. sacellum at jubii dot dk .
5. As you finish your work, post it in your own journal or another relevant journal, and then crosspost it to
celebrate_idaho (unless the community or journal in which you're posting is friends locked - in that case I ask you to post directly to the community).
6. After all contributions have been turned in,a small Hall of Fame will be made in honour of all the contributors and their effort in making the International Day Against Homophobia a great event!
I think that was it for the rules. If you have any questions or observations you want to share, comment and I’ll answer to the best of my ability to clear everything up.
Now, the prompt:
Understanding, it’s misunderstood.
From the Danish band DAD’s song
“Laugh ‘n’ a Half”.
Feel free to interpret it any way you want or use it simply as inspiration.

Summary:
I think I’ve covered everything I can really think of right now. However, it is very late and it is, as previously mentioned, my first time doing anything of the sorts, so if something’s missing or badly explained, ask or point it out to me. I would be grateful.
Now, as I can only post this to the communities I’m a member of (and only those relevant to the issue) and because I have a limited flist, I beg you: SPREAD THE WORD! If this has caught your interest and you want to see what some of your friends would say about it or something like that, link to this entry and let others join the fun.
I really hope someone will find IDAHO worth celebrating and want to do it by highlighting an issue that is certainly worth a couple of words and a line or two on your piece of paper.
