Plagarism

This is outrageous... Breathe is not an exact copy of the Queer as Folk episodes with Brian having cancer.  It's not!  The only thing copied is the main idea (a man has testicular cancer, he doesn't tell his partner), and a few lines which I've given reference to.  In the end, the archive is only Skyhawke and if they pull my account off the site, ( Read more... )

Breathe is great story and person that said all those things about plagiarism is an idiot. I haven’t seen any of the QAF episodes so I don’t know if there rally are similarities. And also I don’t care if almost everything is copied, the story is great and I love it and check for a new chapter several times a day. I believe you when you say you just sort of took the general idea (of not telling about cancer). I also do not think that is an idea so firmly connected to QAF. There are unfortunately many people with cancer and some of them are probably hiding the fact. I repeat, that person is an idiot. Also I don’t think any of the QAF characters is Hero of the Wizarding world that uses apparating to Canada as an excuse. How can intercontinental apparating be considered plagiarism? Anyway, I love Harry and Severus, not some to me completely unknown characters and I want to read about Harry and Severus. Story is fantastic and I wish to read more if possible.
Sorry about ranting but I love Breathe and couldn’t help defending it.

Believe me, I don't mind. It's good to know people like the story. I looked at what could happen over at skyhawke and basically the story would be taken down, but that's it. Still, this woman is saying that because I copied one line ("I'm having a ball") and paraphrased the diologue between the doctor and Harry (really, there's only so many ways it can be worded) it raised "red flags." Bullshit. That's nothing compared to some people who have copied word for word entire scenes from the Harry Potter books into their story or from some other source.

That's ridiculous! Someone tell those asses over in Skyehawke that fanfiction is by nature plagerism. It's like looking for adulterers in a whorehouse!

Has your Skyhawke account been suspended yet? If not, try explaining it to the mods there. It's hard to believe they'll delete the fic according to one line.

No, the account hasn't been suspended. I think that they only take the story down. Right now I'm fighting my case in the forum with the moderator in charge of such things.
