What an amazing photo Anissa... this sounds very Maloufian.... as if you have walked off the page of an "Imaginary Life".... have you read his latest? MG
Thanks Michael. The photo is the view from my uncle's Moroccain 'cottages' in the northern hills of Morocco. They were truly beautiful, everything hand built by my uncle and father (and a few local villagers). Very remote- no mainline water, sporadic electricity and no roads!
As for Malouf, I saw his latest but haven't read it. I happen to be reading "Every move you make" which I am enjoying. I will eventually get through some more of his. Have you read his latest?
not yet... but as with all such "unread" books I will probably put it on "the course" next semester! I gave a conference paper on the uses of Blogging in my teaching of the "homeless" this week and cited both your and John's adventurous use of the technology. Keep up the good work MG
There are always too many books one wants to read and never enough time. There are certainly plenty of great choices for the Australian Literature course. You could change it every semester!
I saw your post on the conference. How did it go? How was your paper received? Thanks for citing my blog- I'm very flattered. I hope, even though I'm not at ACU anymore, that your students may still find something worthwhile and relevant in what I write. i certainly still read their blogs.
what a breath of fresh air for me to be able to read your stuff again. I didn't realise how much I missed it. The way you express yourself skips my head and heads staright to my heart. Thanks. Oh and I didnt mean that i wanted you to pay me back. An artisit nees their tools and if u ever need help PLEASE let me know. I';m not possesive and I really dont care bout money. Hope ur ok-
Well, that is indeed a very generous offer. And a lovely compliment too! It felt so good to finally have the chance to post something, even if I had written this by candle light in Morocco all those months ago. Writing gives such peace and I'm lucky I have lovely people to be able to share that with and get great feedback from
I'm glad you're blogging again. Your writing really needs to be read by a wider audience. It just can't stay hidden or locked away. It touches people, and brings them another understanding of the world - one that is poetic, insightful, and wise...
Looking forward to more of your posts :)
(Now, how do I become a fan of yours on facebook? ;) )
Haha, I should set up a facebook fan page and really get into the shameless self promotion! I'm thinking of moving to wordpress so more people can read. Also makes comments easier etc
Hi Anissa- belated reply- the conference was fabulous, because it really gave a taste of a different way of viewing help to those on the margins. Instead of this well-intention wish to "bring them into the fold" so to speak, there was a strong theme of allowing people to exist in whatever community suits them, while giving them what we can of our own insights, creativity and vision. And I think this applies across the board... we are always wanting to "rescue" aborigines... we need a vision that allows peoples to exist happily, valuably, within their frame of reference. Shakespeare did not know this I believe.... now for a leading question. I did mention your name in the paper I gave in Queensland and there is some possibility that the paper might be published. Would you object to your name being included? This would mean that you would be referred to someone who took part in the Clemente Certificate Course for the Homeless, but my intention is/would be to celebrate your achievement. Let me know Cheers MG
