So ... I snagged this from
a friend and thought "Hey! Tis the season and all!" :O) Take it and pass it around (after changing the answers, of course).
1. Egg nog or hot chocolate?
Hot chocolate, of course. CHOCOLATE! I can honestly say I don't think I've ever had egg nod. *gasp*
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
When I was a child, Santa would do both. But now that I'm an adult, and Santa has turned out to be someone I know ... ;O)) ... they're usually wrapped. And I happen to like wrapping presents. ;O))
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
Well, it really depends on the location I think. I've seen my mom do colored lights outside (looks REALLY good ... I should take a picture someday), and put just white lights on the tree. They both look good. I think they can both work as long as it's tastefully done (and not OVER done). I currently live in an apartment, and I can't even FIND my Christmas lights so ... no lights or tree there this year. But I go visit my mom in upstate NY every year anyway, so ... moot point.
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Who am I gonna kiss??? *boggles* I would if there was someone to kiss. ;O}
5. When do you put your decorations up?
If I had any, it would usually be the first or second week of December.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
The turkey, of course. And ham. Basically, the whole meal (mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, mom's homemade rolls, stuffing - not cooked in the turkey) ... it's home cooking! It's all a favorite of mine. :O))
7. Favorite holiday memory as a child?
Strange as it may sound, I don't actually have a memory that is my favorite. What was my favorite thing as a child was the anticipation of Christmas day ... so that I hardly got a wink of sleep. Always my favorite thing to think about as an adult. :O)
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I blame my older sister. I think I was about ... 8 or 9 ... yeah, I know. Late bloomer. And my sister woke me up (we were sleeping in the same room for whatever reason). And she opened the door for me and pointed to mom and dad going down the stairs with the presents. *pokes her sister* Hehe.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Some people would love it if I'd let us, but no (*looks at her mom's man-friend*).
10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
I don't have one. :O( But if I did, lights, pretty glass ornaments, and hopefully some special ornaments collected over the years.
11. Snow: love it or hate it?
Love it in a seasonal sense ... especially when it's falling down in big flakes, and every sound is muted. I love that.
12. Can you ice skate?
Sorta ... I don't really know how to stop properly. The last time I went ice-skating (back in undergrad), I went flying through the gate for the zamboni. *LOL*
13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
Hmmm ... there's always a favorite gift. Every year there's a favorite. But I think my all-time favorite was a print that my mom found of something Thomas Kinkade did (Impressionist artist). It's my favorite. It was already framed in a lovely wood frame, too.
14. What’s the most important thing about the holidays for you?
Being with my family ... even though dad is no longer with us.
15. What is your favorite holiday dessert?
Mom's pumpkin pie .... MMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Hmmm ... watching my mom make bread. It's no one tradition but my own. And I usually get a picture of her with dough up to her elbow as she's making it. *EVIL LAUGH*
17. What tops your tree?
Mom has an African American Angel. I think I prefer a star though.
18. Which do you prefer, giving or receiving?
When I was a child - receiving. I admit it. But I get more enjoyment now out of giving and in seeing what everyone else got ... and helping my niece and nephew play with their stuff if I'm so inclined.
19. What is your favorite Christmas song?
O Holy Night ... and Ave Maria.
20. Candy canes:
I like the red and white ones, but I also love the ones that don't taste minty, but fruity. :O)
21. Favorite Christmas movie?
How the Grinch Stole Christmas, a Christmas Story and Home Alone ... there are others, but those are good for a start. I like Home Alone a lot ... especially since my dad loved to watch it. I think about him every year now when I watch it.
22. What do you leave for Santa?
I don't think we ever started that tradition in my family. :O\
