I am a marketing and communications professional.  Without violating my company's code of conduct, I also make some money on the side with Nifty PR.  I have been approached many, many times about re-writing someone's resume or helping out with some PR.  They don't understand that this is how I supplement my family's income. I agree with most of what you said. In the case of relationships...I have not talked to this person in over 20 years. When we had the family reunion in 2005, I said hi and was snubbed to the point my Dad talked to their Dad (they're cousins). Since they are only inviting the more wealthy relatives, I chalk it up to greed.
