Rant cross posted from a friend's journal and then some

I wrote the following in a friend's journal. They were commenting how some people feel that people shouldn't bring their kids into restaurants. As a note, the person just wanted to get people's feedback on how they feel about this subject matter. I've seen similar articles in the Pioneer Press and there are actually people out in our city that ( Read more... )

I was not attempting to upset you with my comments on Nixie's blog.

You and Chris are two of my favorite people... I would love to discuss this further with you.

You didn't upset me at all with your comments. This has been an issue brewing over the last couple of months with other bloggers and commentors on Pioneer Press. Someone actually punched a toddler in the face in a public restaurant because the kid was playing loudly. I feel very passionate about it.

I still like you... :P

That is completely uncalled for (the punching).

Matty is a good Kid.

There's more to it. Chris informed me that the father of the toddler followed the guy out and broke both his legs.

Much as I don't see myself having kids, I don't think they shouldn't be allowed in restraunts or shopping establishments. They're people, besides how else are they going to learn how to behave in public in the first place?

I have issues when parents have their kids out and about and the kid is being a pain (which, happens...I understand that completely...they get bored) and rather then doing something, they ignore the kid until they get out of hand and then start yelling and cussing at the kid! (I see that alot more then I'd like to being at the mall)

So you know, you're welcome at any parties we host...I don't know what you classify as a kid friendly party as there is normally alcohol at my parties, but there is also food...and a dog and cat.
also, I intend to invite your family to my wedding (dear god that's comming up fast!) and Matthew is very welcome! :)

I LOVED having kids at our wedding. Half the little girls followed me around in awe that I looked so much like a fairy-tale princess ;) It's great for one's ego :)

I agree - The situations where the kids are ignored by their parents until they've become such a pain that the parents turn abusive are just wrong. The parents are the ones who are misbehaving. Children, especially at toddler age, are still learning the ropes!

Chris and I were just talking about this tonight. Our baby's Godfather got us a gift card to Timberlodge because he had felt so sorry for me all summer at every cookout when I wouldn't eat steak because I couldn't have it rare, like I like it ;)

I asked Chris if he'd be interested in going out sometime in the near future - the next week or two. He said he'd love to. I asked if he was sure that was OK, because that would mean bringing Morgan along. He looked at me like I was mad and said, "Of course I want our daughter with us. She's part of the family. Heck, I'd bring the dogs everywhere we went, too, if I could."

I think the points you made are VERY valid. A few bad parents spoil it for the rest, though I must say some single folks/non-parents also can cop a holier-than-thou attitude about "breeders" and their "spawn" which blinds them to those of us who know the proper code of conduct in public.

All of this child-free bs everywhere really pisses me off.
